As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for cinema, I must say that Vikramaditya Motwane’s journey in Bollywood is nothing short of captivating. His ability to breathe life into compelling narratives, such as Udaan, showcases his exceptional storytelling skills and unique vision.
As a diehard admirer, let me tell you: Vikramaditya Motwane, the genius behind Ananya Panday’s latest flick CTRL, is one of the exceptional storytellers gracing Hindi cinema today. His journey began in 2010 with his debut masterpiece, Udaan. This poignant tale of adolescence featured then-newcomer Rajat Barmecha as the protagonist, with celebrated actor Ronit Roy stepping into the role of his father. Fun fact: Ajay Devgn was the original choice for the father’s part in Udaan! Director Motwane just shared this fascinating tidbit.
In a recent chat with casting director Mukesh Chhabra for Mashable India, filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane disclosed that when drafting the script for Udaan, he initially envisioned Ajay Devgn playing the character Bhairav Singh.
A familiar face was always in my mind, it was none other than Ajay Devgn’s. To this day, I find myself questioning whether I should or shouldn’t have reached out to him…yet I never did because I assumed he might decline. One can never truly know for sure. This is according to Motwane’s statement.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share a perspective: The CTRL director repeatedly expressed his conviction that Udaan was primarily my story, rather than my father’s. He further mentioned that the film poster symbolized me more than him. Nikkhil Motwane clarified this reason for intentionally choosing not to focus on that particular direction in the narrative.
Vikramaditya Motwane explained that producers proposed casting a popular actor for the main character in Udaan, since they felt the script would benefit from a star’s presence. He shared that they appreciated the story, but they were keen on having a famous face to carry it. The director pointed out Shahid Kapoor as someone who didn’t fit the role because the character needed to appear innocent and 17 years old.
In the movie Udaan, Rajat Barmecha took on the main character of Rohan Singh, a young man with poetic aspirations who faced expulsion from school. Ronit Roy portrayed Bhairav Singh, a stern father figure, while Ram Kapoor played Jimmy Singh, Rohan’s supportive uncle.
Besides Udaan, Vikramaditya Motwane is recognized as a director of films such as Lootera, Trapped, Bhavesh Joshi: Superhero, and AK vs AK. Recently, his new movie, titled CTRL, hit the screens earlier this month.
Prior to directing Udaan for the first time, Motwane gained experience working alongside renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on movies such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas.
