However, life, much like a rollercoaster ride, is unpredictable and sometimes throws unexpected twists, as we learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Citadel: Honey Bunny introduces Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as main characters. This Indian adaptation of the U.S. series Citadel initially featured Priyanka Chopra as the lead, but scheduling conflicts due to COVID-19 prevented her involvement. However, the show’s creators, Raj and DK, had originally intended to include Priyanka Chopra in the Indian version.
During their chat with OTT Play App, Raj and DK initially hesitated about disclosing certain details. However, they eventually revealed that they had sketched out a few drafts for their upcoming series, even including the role of the actress from Dil Dhadakne Do in it. This planning took place prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He mentioned that there were several earlier versions of the plan which included Priyanka, however, these large-scale plans were already in motion prior to the onset of the pandemic.
Due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years, which impacted budgets, production schedules, and introduced a lot of unpredictability, leading to numerous adjustments in plans, Chopra was not included in the show.
Instead, it was observed that the actress frequently demonstrated her support for them and the program. By posting Instagram stories to cheer them on, mentioning it during interviews, and consistently expressing her appreciation for the Indian series, she consistently showed her admiration.
Raj and DK explained, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone’s lives became disrupted for about two years, and as a result, plans had to be adjusted. Consequently, we didn’t manage to shoot with Priyanka as originally planned, but she has been extremely cooperative since it involves her character.
As a devoted fan, let me share some exciting news for those who might not be aware: I’m thrilled to mention that Priyanka Chopra portrays the character Nadia in Citadel. Furthermore, there’s another intriguing spin-off titled “Citadel: Honey Bunny” which delves into her childhood, focusing on a story of parents who are deeply devoted to their daughter’s wellbeing. The series promises an exhilarating blend of action, espionage, and a captivating narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
Under the guidance of Raj & DK, this show is a collaborative effort between D2R Films and Amazon MGM Studios. Besides Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, notable performances were delivered by Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar. The series made its debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 7th.
