Acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi is currently basking in the success of her latest production, Dabba Cartel. During promotional events, she has been dishing out intriguing anecdotes, and most recently, she humorously recounted an incident where a female crew member at the series’ trailer launch didn’t recognize her and asked if she was Shibani Dandekar, the actress’s daughter-in-law.
In the latest episode of Khane Mein Kya Hai, Shabana Azmi reminisced about an amusing incident that occurred during the trailer launch of Dabba Cartel. She narrated, “There was a 20-year-old girl who was checking the guest list. When she saw me, she asked, ‘Who are you?’ The rest of the cast members immediately swooned. I calmly replied, ‘Shabana Azmi.’ To which she inquired, ‘But aren’t you Shibani Dandekar?’
The seasoned actress didn’t find fault or care about her lack of knowledge, appreciating her as “kind” and fully engrossed in her work. Yet, Anjali Anand from Azmi’s Dabba Cartel was surprised to discover that the girl wasn’t aware of Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, the show’s producers – both renowned figures in the industry, with Farhan being a well-known actor and musician as well.
In their chat, the seasoned actress shared her intrigue regarding the high number of female crew members spread throughout a movie production. She playfully noted that her husband, renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar, had joked about the scarcity of ‘dumb blondes’ on film sets nowadays.
In simpler terms, she remembered Akhtar explaining his frustration towards individuals who had grown past being young girls. He emphasized that the entire team was composed of highly competent women, who always arrived prepared with their documents.
In modern, conversational language: “There are no longer any stereotypical ‘dumb blonde’ characters, batting their eyelashes and claiming ignorance. Instead, she playfully threatened, ‘You’ll be in for a shock (or surprise),’ followed by a chuckle. However, as Azmi pointed out, Javed was merely trying to provoke me.
