As a dedicated follower of Indian cinema, I have always admired the selflessness and dedication that actors like Sharad Kelkar exhibit towards their craft. His recent decision to accept just Rs 101 for his role in Srikanth, a film close to his heart due to his friendship with director Tushar Hiranandani, is a testament to this.
For several years, Sharad Kelkar has mesmerized viewers with his acting talents. Lately, this actor graced the screen in the biographical film “Srikanth,” alongside Rajkummar Rao and directed by Tushar Hiranandani. In this role, Kelkar agreed to receive a mere Rs 101. More recently, he shared the rationale behind his unusual choice. Specifically, Sharad stated that Tushar couldn’t afford his standard fee, so he chose not to press for a high payment given the circumstances.
Moreover, Sharad Kelkar shared that Tushar Hiranandani is a longtime companion of his. Reminiscing about their conversation, Sharad recalled how Tushar had openly admitted that if he had sufficient funds, he would have covered the entire cost. In response, Sharad made it clear to Tushar that there was no need for him to repay any money. Instead, Sharad expressed his intention to join the film project due to their friendship and to contribute to a narrative he felt was worthy of being shared with an audience.
In addition to this, Sharad Kelkar underscored that when it comes to movies, the writer is the key figure in an artist’s career since they craft and shape the narrative. He admitted that Tushar Hiranandani’s story left a deep impact on him. Sharad revealed that the movie is adapted from real-life events, with his character being Ravi Mantha. He expressed his admiration for this intriguing role, stating he didn’t anticipate receiving such an opportunity in the film industry. Sharad highlighted how casting decisions in the entertainment world often revolve around stereotypes, where taller actors are typically cast as villains or police officers.
Sharad Kelkar harbors a firm conviction about his fate and confessed that he didn’t envision himself becoming an actor. Reflecting back, he recalled his struggle with stuttering and thought that someone with such speech impediments would find acting prospects restricted. However, Sharad opted for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and intended to test the waters in 3-4 different professions. Yet, against all initial plans, he has now established himself as one of the top actors in the industry.
This actor has graced several iconic movies such as Ram Leela, Rocky Handsome, Laxmii, Bhuj, among others. His upcoming project is Sky Force.
