Did you know Taapsee Pannu wasn’t Kanika Dhillon’s first choice for Haseen Dillruba? Actress spills beans

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the journey of Taapsee Pannu, I must say her career trajectory is nothing short of inspiring. Her ability to transform herself into diverse characters, even when fate seems to be working against her, is truly commendable.

In the 2021 romantic thriller film Haseen Dillruba, Taapsee Pannu portrayed Rani Saxena, a character that left a lasting impression on viewers. Reflecting on it now, it seems as if no other actor could have embodied the complex role of a two-faced housewife so effectively. However, it might surprise you to learn that she wasn’t initially chosen for the part.

In an interview with The Indian Express, the actress shared that while she was intrigued by the script, screenwriter Kanika Dhillon had initially considered and almost finalized another actor for the main role in the movie. She mentioned that she learned from Kanika about a story of this nature which Kanika intended for a Netflix thriller.

In fact, Taapsee Pannu expressed her desire to be part of the movie. However, just as she was about to receive the script, she left to shoot another film. When she returned, she discovered that Kanika had already told the story to another actor and they were close to finalizing the details.

As destiny seemed to have planned for her to star in the movie, she received a call from the screenwriter inviting her to visit his office to hear the script without asking further questions. Later, the actress of Dunki discovered that the script was for Haseen Dillruba and, after listening to it, she chuckled and said, “I always knew I’d be part of this film,” as she had previously mentioned. Immediately, she agreed to take on the role in Haseen Dillruba.

In her remarks following her role in Mission Mangal, the actress admitted she might not have been the typical choice for the part, except for the nuanced grayness of the character. She explained that if anything doesn’t fit neatly into the scripted roles, she is often selected – making this part even more intriguing to her since nothing seemed to align with her usual casting in the film.

For those who haven’t heard yet, Pannu is preparing for the launch of the follow-up to the movie named Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. This production, led by Jayprad Desai, features Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal as well. The premiere date on Netflix is set for August 9, 2024.
