As a die-hard fan of Bollywood and particularly fond of Varun Dhawan, I can’t help but be captivated by this latest revelation about his journey in the industry. It’s fascinating to learn that even the talented Varun Dhawan had his own moments of insecurity during his debut film, Student of the Year. It seems like the pressure of competing with another promising newcomer, Sidharth Malhotra, was a challenge he had to overcome.
Debut movie for actors Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Alia Bhatt was “Student of the Year,” directed by Karan Johar and released in 2012. This film was a major success at the box office. In a recent interview, Varun’s father David Dhawan, an experienced filmmaker, revealed that his son felt uncertain about Sidharth during the filming process. He also mentioned that he had hoped Varun would become a banker instead of an actor.
David Dhawan shares Varun Dhawan’s insecurity during Student of the Year
On Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, The Invincibles Series, David Dhawan (Varun Dhawan’s father) and filmmaker talked about various subjects. It turned out that Varun felt insecure regarding Sidharth Malhotra during their first movie together, Student of the Year.
David Dhawan reminisced about the past, when his son Varun returned home from overseas studies. He shared that during this time, many people were choosing banking careers, and so, he asked Varun what he aspired to become in life.
The fresh father approached Karan Johar expressing his desire to help out as an assistant director. David Dhawan mentioned that Karan had a close relationship with the family, having collaborated with them on My Name is Khan overseas, and it was Ravi Chandran, the cinematographer, who advised Karan to take note of the aspiring assistant.
Discussing Varun’s apprehensions, David Dhawan mentioned that Karan dropped by their house and expressed his intention to launch Varun. They even did a photo shoot with Sidharth Malhotra. David Dhawan further stated, “I was there with him, and on certain days he would be quite downhearted too. I told him, ‘Such situations are common in films with two leads. Remember, my son, you’re incredibly talented. Your self-assurance is commendable. Don’t fear, take the plunge.'”
For those not familiar, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra worked alongside Karan Johar in the movie “My Name Is Khan.”
