As an ardent fan of Vikrant Massey, I’ve always been captivated by his journey and the stories that unfold from his life experiences. His tale of selling his mobile phone during a trip to Goa with friends is not just a testament to his resourcefulness but also a reflection of his humility and compassion.
Every so often, we all dream of traveling with friends to India’s beloved vacation spot, Goa. Actor Vikrant Massey is no exception, but unlike most people, his trip didn’t go as planned. Instead, he found himself in need of selling his mobile phone to get back to Mumbai.
In a recent chat, Vikrant Massey shared an episode from his past. He reminisced about a time when he and his buddies decided to go on a vacation to Goa after he had begun earning some cash. Unfortunately, during their trip, they found themselves short on funds. To cover the costs, the actor was compelled to sell his mobile phone.
He explained that he had recently begun earning, took Rs 5000, joined his friends on a Volvo bus trip. It was the final night of their journey, and in those days they used to split all costs equally. For instance, if a cold drink cost Rs 20, they’d divide it by Rs 10 each. Unfortunately, by checkout time, everyone had run out of money. The hotel bill was due. He only had a mobile phone, so he sold it to cover the bill and purchase return tickets to Mumbai for all his friends.
In a chat with Faye D’Souza, Vikrant pointed out that while people can work through financial difficulties, the emotional impact of such struggles lingers and influences one’s perspective and life decisions. When asked if he had managed to rise above those limitations, the actor from the movie “12th Fail” confessed that he hasn’t because it’s a part of his ingrained mindset.
The actor pointed out that growing up in a certain way for so long can deeply ingrain feelings of “hypervigilance or self-doubt.” He explained that while his current circumstances have improved, this ingrained mindset doesn’t simply change. Instead, he described it as an intrinsic part of who he is. The 37-year-old actor clarified that he doesn’t harbor any insecurities consciously, but unconsciously, he feels everything is temporary, a feeling he inherited from his parents’ past experiences.
