Diego Luna & Alan Tudyk Spill Hilarious Secrets and Emotional Stories About Andor Season 2

At Star Wars Celebration in Japan, it’s delightful to witness two well-known figures enjoying themselves amidst all the buzzing news. Supporting the upcoming Season 2 of Andor, due for release on Disney+ on April 22nd, stars Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk reminisced about their journey from Rogue One in 2016 to the present day. The affable Luna portrays main character Cassian Andor, while Tudyk continues to amuse with his performance as K-2SO. They shared laughs as they swapped stories and opinions about their Tony Gilroy series.

Tudyk stated, “The name on your trailer is not my real name, but instead, a pseudonym is used. This is done so that if I’m working on location, people can’t easily identify me as Sigourney Weaver. My alias when I started was ‘Old Pal’. It’s a bit touching actually, they even went to the trouble of labeling my trailer with the code name.

Luna chimed in with a burst of laughter, saying, “That was mine! I guess they couldn’t help but call the Mexican actor ‘Carlos’, could they?

Apart from their work, they reminisced about the times they shared a hearty chuckle during the filming of both Andor and Rogue One. They specifically mentioned an uncut scene in Rogue One, where Luna momentarily lost her composure and broke into laughter.

In Rogue One, Luna said, “There’s a slap happening, noticeably everyone is focusing on it, but if you pay attention to me, you’ll see I’m chuckling about it.

“You can tell they didn’t edit it out.”

“And you can tell it’s not the character,” added Luna. “It’s the actor being very unprofessional.”

Absolutely, I have autographed that photo previously, and as you can notice, your hand partially obscures this portion, while the upturn of your mouth suggests a grin – though it doesn’t seem to be a particularly joyful occasion since we’re heading off to jail.

In a somewhat surprising yet harmonious pairing, Luna and Tudyk have formed a strong connection and significantly enhanced each other’s acting abilities throughout the series Andor. As Luna shared, “I confided in Alan about how crucial it is for me to complete this journey, especially delivering the second season, the final season. We’ve been sitting together during this process.” Luna reminisced, “Our partnership began 11 years ago in a movie that was quite extraordinary for me, a life-changing experience. Many events have unfolded since then, and I’ve shared those moments with Alan. I feel a strong bond with him.” Luna added:

“I started this journey with him, and now we’re finishing it together. It feels like we’ve come full circle.

To reach the point where “Rogue One” begins, I must say this has been an entirely unique experience for me, a different kind of storytelling compared to anything I’ve done before. Typically, I don’t know the ending or have shot it ahead of time. But in this case, we filmed an entire movie that concludes the story. Reflecting on the past ten years, assembling all the background details feels like revisiting a decade of my life.

How Diego Luna & Cassian Andor Have Changed Since ‘Rogue One’

During the Star Wars Celebration, Diego Luna was questioned about how Cassian Andor and his personal connection to the character have evolved over the past ten years since filming Rogue One. “Significantly,” Luna stated. “Rogue One is a movie centered around an incident, correct? We developed characters for that incident. As actors, we came with a pre-existing backstory and a clear understanding of who our characters were, but the film isn’t solely about that. There’s a lot of enigma surrounding these characters, and Andor has given us the opportunity to narrate their stories, delve into what motivated their decisions.” Luna further explained:

Diego Luna discussed how Cassian Andor and his relationship with the character have transformed over the past decade since Rogue One. He said that Rogue One focuses on an event, so they created characters for that event, but it doesn’t delve deeply into their backstories. The new series Andor will explore who these characters are and the reasons behind their actions.

In essence, it’s similar to exploring a significant moment in history or delving into the life of a historical figure, isn’t it? We’re generally aware of their actions and capabilities. We understand the major sacrifices they made, yet we’re often left wondering about their motives. What legacy are they passing on? These stories aim to uncover those unknown aspects.

Luna added, “In a sense, I find similarities between myself and Cassian, as both of us have created families. I established one through the show ‘Andor,’ surrounded by individuals I deeply respect, from whom I’ve learned so much. We faced hardships together, like the pandemic, and even though London was our home, our real homes were far away. All these experiences, this transformation, this journey – they’ve changed me profoundly, and I believe these lessons can be applied to Cassian.” Luna then continued:

Through his actions and the choices he has made, we are gaining insight into what drives him – both the sacrifices he is willing to make and the causes he is passionate about. As we move forward into the second season, we’ll witness what he is leaving behind and what he is determined to protect. It seems to me that beneath the surface of this revolution lies pain, frustration, injustice, and loss – yet there’s an undeniable romantic element to every uprising. At its core, this revolution represents love, belonging, family values, and it’s exactly what Cassian is striving for. In going through this process, I too have formed bonds and now feel a part of something greater – a community.

Once you’ve wrapped up Season 2, feel free to check out Rogue One. It offers a fresh viewpoint, so you’re guaranteed an exciting change!
