Ever since its debut in 2022, I’ve found myself captivated by one particular gem in the Star Wars universe – the electrifying Andor series. Recently, at a Los Angeles gathering called “An Evening With Andor”, we celebrated the show’s climactic end and reminisced about some of its most pulse-pounding, emotionally charged, and downright enjoyable scenes.
At the Writers’ Guild Theater in Los Angeles, a grand finale celebration took place, drawing in hundreds of enthusiastic fans. Among those present was Diego Luna, the star portraying the lead character, and other notable attendees included Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen), Ben Mendelsohn reprising his role as Orson Krennic, Genevieve O’Reilly playing Senator Mon Mothma, executive producers Tony Gilroy and Sanne Wohlenberg, and the moderator of the Q&A session – superfan and Emmy Award winner Patton Oswalt.
As a devoted fan, I must express that the prequel spinoff film titled “Andor” has captivated me like no other Star Wars production in recent times. Initially conceived as a five-season series by Tony Gilroy, each season was intended to depict one of Cassian Andor’s remaining years. However, during the course of Season 1, Gilroy and Luna recognized that five seasons might dilute the narrative, leading them to transform “Andor” into a two-season project instead. When asked about future Star Wars ventures, Gilroy mentioned, “Rogue One was a decade ago, and this is six years of my life, equivalent to 26 hours of content. I may direct again someday, but not at the moment.
Diego Luna Will Never Forget Andor’s Ghorman Massacre
Reflecting on my favorite moment from the show as a passionate movie critic, I can’t help but hark back to the gripping intensity of the Ghorman massacre scene. This was more than just an action sequence; it was a profound and emotional experience that has left an indelible mark on me.
The chaos and complexity of this scene were breathtaking, with multiple events unfolding simultaneously. There were instances where several cameras captured the mayhem, as we skillfully orchestrated a multitude of extras, stunts, special effects, fires, explosions, and fierce combat sequences. The end result was nothing short of spectacular.
One memorable scene for the actors involved a speech against fascism and the approaching Empire, where the character had to deliver the speech repeatedly to fully understand and embody the emotions behind it. As the actor, O’Reilly explained that he wanted to practice the speech multiple times to capture the subtle nuances of focus, distraction, fear, and courage within it. He believed this scene was a study of ordinary people’s courage, even though the character herself wasn’t initially aware of her own bravery. The role was filled with self-doubt and fear, but O’Reilly found the courage through the words and delivery.
Andor‘s first and second seasons are streaming on Disney+.
