As a follower who has witnessed Diljit Dosanjh’s journey from his humble beginnings to becoming one of the most influential artists in Bollywood and Punjabi music, I can confidently say that he is not one to back down when it comes to standing up for what he believes in. His recent encounter with the Telangana Government’s notice regarding songs on drugs and alcohol is a testament to his unwavering spirit and commitment to his values.
Diljit Dosanjh isn’t planning to ignore the warning from the Telangana Government about avoiding songs on drug and alcohol themes. In fact, he recently made a pointed comment during his performance in Ahmedabad, implying that he won’t be provoked, and even hinted that it’s Bollywood actors who promote alcohol, not him.
Diljit Dosanjh posted a video (approximately 3 minutes and 45 seconds long) on his Instagram account showcasing his performance at a musical event in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In the video, he’s seen on stage addressing an enormous audience and announcing some exciting news, mentioning that he hadn’t received any prior notification that day. The renowned singer (often referred to as the “GOAT”) also clarified during his speech that he wouldn’t be performing any songs about alcohol, since Gujarat is a dry state.
The former performer-now-actor noted that he’s sung many spiritual songs, including two – one dedicated to Guru Nanak and another to Lord Shiva – which were recently released within the last ten days. Yet, it seems like everyone on television is only discussing the song titled “Patiala Peg.
He emphasized that his role is limited to singing the songs, not pushing others to drink. In another context, Diljit pointed out that compared to numerous songs in Bollywood, he has only sung a small number.

“Main vo bhi nahin gaunga (I’ll not sing them either). It’s very easy to tweak the songs, kyunki main khud sharaab nahi peeta lekin Bollywood ke jo kalakaar hain vo sharaab ki advertisement karte hain, Diljit dosanjh advertisement nahi karta. Aap merko chedo mat main jahan jaata hoon apna program karta hoon chala jaata hoon. Aap kyun chhed rahe ho mujhe (because I don’t drink, but Bollywood artists endorse alcohol, and I don’t. Don’t poke me. I do my shows and go. Why are you poking me?).”
Besides suggesting a campaign, Diljit proposed an idea to label all the states as “dry.” He guaranteed that under this condition, he would refrain from composing songs about alcohol throughout his entire life. Amusedly, he asked the crowd if they believed it was feasible and chuckled at their response.
There’s an enormous income being made. Everything was closed during the pandemic, apart from bars. What on earth could you be discussing? You can’t deceive young people.
if his performances couldn’t be held without alcohol, then those cities should have a non-alcohol day instead. He also mentioned that modifying his songs to fit this requirement would be effortless for him.
From the stage, he confidently declared in a strong voice that he wouldn’t worry about what to perform if barred from singing his current songs, because he’s not a novice artist. Additionally, he shared that he would adjust the songs, but they would still be just as entertaining.
The video received endorsement from Alia Bhatt, who liked it, as well as B Praak, the singer of Teri Mitti. He further showed his backing by commenting, “Nicely put, friend! We need to make this change,” accompanied by fire, raised hands, heart symbols, and a hundred-point emoji.
Apart from that, rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh additionally posted about his backing for the singer on his Instagram Story.
