As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for skateboarding and a soft spot for unique sneakers, this latest collaboration between Vans and Dime truly tickles my fancy. Having grown up in the early 2000s, I can appreciate the nostalgic silhouette of the Mixxa and its nod to that era. The all-black design, paired with a classic gum sole, is understated yet impactful – perfect for everyday wear.
This year, after their previous collaboration on the Rowley XLT, Vans and Dime are teaming up again. This time, they’re designing a special edition of the Vans Mixxa, in partnership with Vancouver skater Una Farrar.
Designed for everyday use, this sleek black sneaker showcases a distinctive SickStickā¢ rubber sole and DURACAPā¢ reinforcements, along with a thick tongue, broad laces, large heel loops, and numerous unique details. For instance, the collar and midfoot display a twisted version of the classic Vans checkered pattern, while Farrar’s tribute to her Irish roots is seen on the lateral forefoot overlay in the form of a custom clover hit. The woodmark of Dime adorns the heel, and Farrar’s drawings grace the insoles of this jointly branded model.
Farrar stated that he desired the Mixxa to have a muted and uncluttered color scheme for it to be versatile for everyone. The combination of black and gum is understated yet timeless. It’s a great privilege for him to see his name on a shoe, sharing it with brands that inspire and resonate with him. He appreciates the nostalgic shapes from the early 2000s, making the Mixxa an ideal choice. For good measure, he included a four-leaf clover as an added touch of luck.
On September 21, the Vans Mixxa collaboration between Una Farrar and Dime will be released through Dime. By September 26, this design will also be available in selected Vans Skateboarding stores. Check out the images of the design displayed above.
