The movies of 2025 are filled with dinosaurs, ghosts, vampires and more Wicked.
Moviegoers can expect Brad Pitt portraying a Formula One racer, Jesse Buckley in the role of the Bride of Frankenstein, and Timothée Chalamet as a 1950s ping-pong champion on the big screen. Familiar faces such as Paddington, Bridget Jones, and Happy Gilmore will return for new adventures, while popular animations like How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, and Snow White are being adapted into live-action versions.
Here are the most anticipated movies (so far) due out next year.
Wolf Man (Jan. 17)
Director Leigh Whannell, known for his work on “Insidious,” delves into the traditional realm of monster movies. In this chilling tale produced by Blumhouse, actors Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner portray a family who relocate to an ancient farmhouse, where they encounter a terrifying werewolf.
The Monkey (Feb. 21)
The subsequent film by Osgood Perkins following his hit horror movie “Longlegs” revolves around an eerie narrative involving an antique toy monkey. James Wan serves as the producer, while Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, and Elijah Wood take on leading roles.
The Woman in the Yard (March 28)
During awards season, Danielle Deadwyler takes center stage in a Blumhouse production that follows a family receiving an unsettling message from a woman in black who suddenly shows up on their front yard. This supernatural thriller is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra with a focus on psychological horror.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25)
The new iteration of Fantastic Four is being helmed by Matt Shakman, director from WandaVision, and features Pedro Pascal portraying Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. This film, with a 1960s space-age vibe, has the quartet facing off against Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).
Untitled Trey Parker/Matt Stone Comedy (July 4)
The dynamic duo behind “South Park” are set to showcase their humor in an upcoming unnamed film. As per earlier reports, the story revolves around a young African-American man who works as a slave re-enactor at a historical museum, where he unexpectedly learns that his white girlfriend’s ancestors owned him. Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free are also involved in production for this movie.
The Battle of Baktan Cross (Aug. 8)
In the latest production by Paul Thomas Anderson, we find Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, and Alana Haim gracing the screen. Anderson himself penned the movie’s script, keeping the plot summary (or logline) a secret for now.
Mercy (Aug. 15)
In the film directed by Timur Bekmambetov, Chris Pratt plays a character who is a detective and must work to clear his name after being falsely accused of a crime. Alongside him, Rebecca Ferguson and Annabelle Wallis take on other key roles.
The Bride! (Sept. 26)
In Maggie Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of The Bride of Frankenstein, Jessie Buckley is cast as the titular bride, while Christian Bale assumes the role of Frankenstein’s monster. As suggested by its synopsis, a solitary Frankenstein seeks the aid of Dr. Euphronios to fabricate a companion for himself, leading them to reanimate a woman who had previously been killed.
Good Fortune (Oct. 17)
In this film, Aziz Ansari takes on both the director’s role and acting alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves. The plot revolves around an individual facing hardships whose life is unexpectedly traded with that of a prosperous acquaintance due to some mysterious power.
Regretting You (Oct 24)
The most recent movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover, following the box office hit “It Ends With Us“, is currently showing in theaters. Allison Williams takes on the lead role, with Mckenna Grace portraying her teenage daughter whose relationship becomes increasingly tense.
Bugonia (Nov. 7)
In the newest collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, the award-winning actress portrays a powerful CEO of a significant corporation who gets abducted by two youthful men with a fixation on conspiracies. Jesse Plemmons, previously working with Lanthimos and Stone in the 2024 film “Kinds of Kindness,” is also featured in this English-language reinterpretation of the 2003 South Korean movie “Save the Green Planet!”.
Predator: Badlands (Nov. 7)
Dan Trachtenberg, who refreshed the Predators franchise with the 20th Century and Hulu movie Prey, is now directing a new feature film featuring Elle Fanning. In contrast to Prey, Badlands will be set in the future, and Trachtenberg has reunited with Prey’s screenwriter Patrick Aison for this project.
The Running Man (Nov. 21)
Edgar Wright takes on directing duties for Glen Powell in the modern adaptation of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger film, originally set in 2025. The plot revolves around a police officer wrongly accused who is compelled to participate in a television competition where contestants are pursued by assassins. Collaborating with Edgar Wright on the script for Scott Pilgrim, Michael Bacall and Wright penned the screenplay based on a Stephen King tale.
Zootopia 2 (Nov. 26)
This movie is the continuation of the 2016 hit animated comedy about Judy Hopps, a rabbit who became the first one on the Zootopia police force, and Nick Wilde, a sly fox with a criminal past. Together, they embark on an exciting adventure to unravel the most puzzling case in the animal kingdom.
The Housemaid (Dec. 25)
In this film adaptation based on Freida McFadden’s novel, Paul Feig serves as the director, featuring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in the leading roles. The story revolves around Millie (Sweeney), a hard-up young woman who lands a position as a housemaid for Nina (Seyfried), one-half of an affluent, high-class couple. However, this seemingly ordinary household harbors secrets that come to light over time.
Marty Supreme (Dec. 25)
The film “A24” features Timothée Chalamet portraying a champion of ping-pong in the 1950s. Directed by Josh Safdie, known for his work on “Uncut Gems,” this movie also boasts the talents of Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler the Creator, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, and others.

In Luca Guadagnino’s newest film, Julia Roberts plays a college professor who must face her own troubling past when a notable student accuses one of her peers. Alongside Roberts, Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri, and Chloë Sevigny are also part of the ensemble cast.

Renowned horror director Guillermo del Toro reinterprets Mary Shelley’s famous monster tale, casting Oscar Isaac as Doctor Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi in the role of the Monster. Alongside them are Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Felix Kammerer who also appear in significant roles.
Untitled Noah Baumbach Movie (TBD)
The most recent work by filmmaker Baumbach, following his directing role in “White Noise“, features George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Eve Hewson, and Riley Keough. The specific storyline is currently confidential.
Warfare (TBD)
This real-time movie, titled “Civil War,” is directed by Alex Garland – a filmmaker who previously worked on the “Civil War” film, and co-written by Ray Mendoza, an Iraq war veteran. David Koepp, who penned the script for “Jurassic Park,” wrote a supernatural tale from the ghost’s point of view, starring Lucy Liu and Chris Sullivan, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
You’re Cordially Invited (Jan. 30)
In an upcoming film by Amazon MGM, stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon portray two siblings embroiled in a dispute: the father of the bride and the sister of another bride, both caught up in a conflict over a double-booked wedding venue. The movie will be available for streaming on Prime Video.
Companion (Jan. 31)

In this installment, the protagonist, who is now a widow, finds herself balancing her parental responsibilities with dating endeavors. Joining the returning cast of Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson are Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.
Captain America: Brave New World (Feb. 14)
In Anthony Mackie’s debut as Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Harrison Ford enters the scene as Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk, while Danny Ramirez assumes the role of The Falcon. The film is directed by Julius Onah.
Paddington in Peru (Feb. 14)
The charming “Paddington” series carries on with this movie, as it follows our beloved bear character, along with his iconic duffle coat, embarking on a journey back to his homeland of Peru, in an attempt to find his Aunt Lucy. Joining the cast are Olivia Colman and Emily Mortimer, who join returning favorites Hugh Bonneville and Ben Whishaw.
Sinners (March 7)
In the role of a gamer, I’d say: “I’m pumped up to dive back into the world of Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler as they team up for this thrilling vampire flick! Guess who’s stepping into the shoes of twin characters? Yours truly! As we navigate our way back to our old stomping grounds, we stumble upon an evil that’s far from what we expected. Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo join the cast in this action-packed tale.
The Electric State (March 14)
The most recent film by the Russo brothers for Netflix shares its title with a graphic novel and tells a story about a teenage girl (Millie Bobby Brown) who joins forces with a robot that insists it knows the whereabouts of her long-lost brother. Additionally, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, and Stanley Tucci are part of the cast in this production.
Snow White (March 21)
The real-life film adaptation of Disney’s timeless animated tale features Rachel Zegler as our main character, while Gal Gadot assumes the role of the wicked queen. Directed by Marc Webb, the screenplay is penned by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.
A Minecraft Movie (April 4)
This animated-live action hybrid comedy series, inspired by the widely acclaimed video game, features Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks in leading roles. The story unfolds within the game’s environment, allowing users to construct their creative ideas without limits.
Mickey 17 (April 18)
The eagerly awaited film by director Bong Joon-ho, titled unspecified, features Robert Pattinson as a character who holds a job described as “disposable,” or someone who dies and is reborn. In an unexpected turn of events, one of his reincarnations manages to survive, forcing him to grapple with the new version of himself. Alongside Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo are also part of the stellar cast.
The Accountant 2 (April 25)
I can’t help but share my excitement about the upcoming sequel to the 2016 movie, which saw Ben Affleck take on the role of a brilliant mathematician and accountant for illicit criminal networks. It’s great news that Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons will be reprising their roles in this continuation!
Thunderbolts (May 2)
The concluding movie of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Five focuses on a joint venture by MCU antagonists, supported by the American government. Reappearing characters include Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and David Harbour as Red Guardian. Additionally, Wyatt Russell takes on the role of John Walker, Olga Kurylenko portrays Taskmaster, and Hannah John-Kamen reprises her character as Ghost.
Lilo & Stitch (May 23)
Following “Snow White”, Disney’s next live-action remake in 2025 will be “Lilo & Stitch”. Similar to the 2002 animated version, it tells the story of a space alien who lands on Earth and is adopted by a lively but solitary girl in Hawaii. The role of Lilo will be played by newcomer Maia Kealoha, while the cast also includes Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis, and Courtney B. Vance.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23)
In the upcoming “Mission: Impossible” installment, Christopher McQuarrie takes charge as director, with Tom Cruise reprising his role as Ethan Hunt. Previous cast members such as Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Vaness Kirby are set to return, while Hannah Waddingham and Katy O’Brian join the franchise for the first time.
Karate Kid: Legends (May 30)
Following the triumph of Netflix’s series “Cobra Kai,” the fresh chapter in the “Karate Kid” saga features Jackie Chan’s character, Mr. Han, and Ralph Macchio’s character, Daniel LaRusso, joining forces to train a new protege as their mentors.
Ballerina (June 6)
The upcoming movie spinoff of the John Wick film series, taking place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, introduces Ana De Armas as a character who transitions from a ballerina to an assassin. Len Wiseman serves as director for this production, with Norman Reedus and franchise veterans Ian McShane and Anjelica Huston also featured in the cast.
Elio (June 13)
A socially awkward extraterrestrial, struggling to bond with humans, is accidentally recognized as Earth’s chief by a cosmic organization in search of planetary delegates. The film featuring this storyline is “Pixar’s” production, starring Zoe Saldaña and Brad Garrett.
How to Train Your Dragon (June 13)
Following the success of its animated trilogy, the upcoming “How to Train Your Dragon” movie will transition into live-action, adapting the storyline from the original film. This new tale centers around a young Viking named Hiccup, who forms an unlikely friendship with a dragon after years of being taught to hunt them. Notably, Gerard Butler is set to reprise his role as Stoick the Vast, portraying Hiccup’s father in this live-action adaptation.
28 Years Later (June 20)
Once again, Danny Boyle takes up the director’s role for a chilling zombie horror thriller penned by Alex Garland. The story brings back Cillian Murphy to the franchise that catapulted his career, with Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes joining him on screen.
F1 (June 27)
In the upcoming movie, Brad Pitt takes on the role of a seasoned racer who reunites with the Formula 1 track to guide and partner a promising young driver (Damson Idris). This film, steered by Joseph Kosinski – known for directing “Top Gun: Maverick” – was produced in partnership with no less than ten Formula 1 teams. Scenes were even filmed during actual F1 races.
M3GAN 2.0 (June 27)
In 2022, a chilling horror movie featuring a murderous life-sized doll raked in an impressive $95 million at the domestic box office. The upcoming sequel, penned by screenwriter Akela Cooper (of M3GAN fame), is set to bring back Allison Williams and Violet McGraw for another round of spine-tingling adventure.
Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2)
In the newest installment of the Jurassic World series, set following the occurrences of Jurassic World Dominion, we find that the planet has largely become unsuitable for dinosaurs, with all ancient creatures tending to gather near the equator. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey take on leading roles in this production, directed by Gareth Edwards, who is also known for his work on Godzilla.
Superman (July 11)
In James Gunn’s reimagining of Man of Steel, David Corenswet plays Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult portrays Lex Luthor. The tagline for the movie goes: “He represents honesty, fairness, and the traditional American spirit in a world that considers it outdated.
I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel (July 18)
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, director of “Do Revenge,” is stepping into the sequel of the ’90s horror icon. Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are set to reprise their roles for the movie, with fresh faces such as Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King also joining the cast.
The Bad Guys 2 (Aug. 1)
In the sequel to the 2022 animated laugh riot, I find myself as one of the infamous Bad Guys grappling with the challenge of proving our reform to the skeptical world. Just when we thought we could peacefully retire, an all-female troupe, the formidable Bad Girls, swoops in to shake up our plans!
The Naked Gun (Aug. 1)
Akiva Schaffer, a member of The Lonely Island, is responsible for the modern adaptation of the popular ’80s slapstick comedy featuring Leslie Nielsen as the lovable yet clumsy detective Frank Drebin. In this new version, Liam Neeson takes on the role of Frank Drebin Jr., with an ensemble cast that includes Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser.
Freakier Friday (Aug. 8)
In a new turn of events, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprise their roles as the mother-daughter pair who can magically swap bodies. However, this time around, Lohan’s character Tess finds herself with a daughter and an upcoming stepdaughter in her life. Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray are set to return, while Julia Butters, who gained fame from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has been added to the cast.
Nobody 2 (Aug. 15)
In the upcoming sequel, Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as Hutch Mansell, a former government assassin who’s trying to settle into a typical lifestyle. Connie Nielsen, RZA, Christopher Lloyd, and Michael Ironside are all set to return, picking up where the original film left off – with Mansell successfully foiling a home invasion.
The Conjuring: Last Rites (Sept. 7)
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are returning for the sixth movie in the Conjuring series, which is being marketed as the last installment focusing on the main story of supernatural investigators Ed and Lorrain Warren. The film, titled “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” will have Michael Chaves back in the director’s chair for this sequel.
Downton Abbey 3 (Sept. 12)
The principal cast of “Downton” returns for the third film, including Paul Giamatti who once again portrays Harold Levinson, Cora Grantham’s brother. Simon Curtis is helming the production with a screenplay penned by Julian Fellowes, the creator of the series.
Michael (Oct. 3)
Jaafar Jackson, the relative of the late pop legend, takes on a role in the Michael Jackson biopic helmed by director Antoine Fuqua. Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo complete the talented cast. In April, it was announced that the production will feature over 30 songs.
The Black Phone 2 (Oct. 17)
2021’s horror movie directed by Scott Derrickson features a 13-year-old character, Finney (played by Mason Thames), who finds himself imprisoned by a murderer. However, he receives support from the killer’s past victims, who communicate with him via a disconnected telephone. Ethan Hawke reprises his role as The Grabber in this film.
Now You See Me 3 (Nov. 14)
In this upcoming third installment of the magician-focused heist film series, you’ll find returning stars such as Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan. Joining them are some exciting new faces, including Ariana Greenblatt from the movie “Barbie,” Dominic Sessa who gained recognition in “The Holdovers,” and Justice Smith.
Wicked: For Good (Nov. 21)
Continuing the storyline from the initial “Wicked” movie musical, we find Cynthia Erivo’s character as the Wicked Witch of the West and Ariana Grande portraying Glinda the Good Witch, each on their own path following a split caused by the manipulations of the malevolent Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum.
Avatar: Fire and Ash (Dec. 19)
As a longtime fan of the Avatar franchise, I eagerly await the release of the third installment. Having grown up watching the original film and being captivated by the stunning visual effects and thought-provoking storyline, I can still remember the excitement that swept through me when I first heard about the upcoming sequels. With the success of the second film, The Way of Water, grossing an astounding $2.32 billion at the global box office, it’s clear that this series continues to captivate audiences worldwide. I can only imagine what new adventures await Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and I can’t wait to see how their story unfolds in the third installment. The suspense is killing me!
Death of a Unicorn (TBD)
Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd are the main characters in a humorous fantasy film about a father-daughter duo who unfortunately strike and kill a magical creature resembling a unicorn. They later find themselves at a wildlife sanctuary run by a pharmaceutical executive, where they learn that the deceased creature’s components possess healing properties. However, trouble arises when another unicorn appears, seeking vengeance for its fallen comrade.
Friendship (TBD)
In this comedy, the star-studded duo of Tim Robinson from “I Think You Should Leave” and Paul Rudd play central roles. The story revolves around a suburban father character portrayed by Robinson, who experiences an unexpected change in his life after striking up a friendship with his recently moved-in neighbor, played by Rudd.
Happy Gilmore 2 (TBD)
Once again, Adam Sandler takes on the role of a former hockey player turned golf instructor, alongside Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller. Directed by Kyle Newacheck (from “Murder Mystery”), this comedy introduces Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce to its star-studded cast.
The Old Guard 2 (TBD)
In the sequel to her 2020 action movie, Charlize Theron continues in the lead role. Additionally, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo, and Chiwetel Ejiofor reappear in their roles from the first film. Uma Thurman and Henry Golding are newcomers to this ensemble cast.
A Simple Favor 2 (TBD)
The second installment of “A Simple Favor” will bring back Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick as characters Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson respectively. In this upcoming film, they are off to the picturesque island of Capri for Emily’s grand wedding, but instead of a blissful event, things take a dark turn with murder and deceit unfolding.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (TBD)
In the third installment of Rian Johnson’s collection of murder mysteries, featuring Daniel Craig, we also have actors such as Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, and Kerry Washington joining the star-studded cast.
The Smashing Machine (TBD)
In the film titled “The Smashing Machine“, Dwayne Johnson portrays Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion, marking a shift from his usual blockbuster roles. The movie is penned and directed by Benny Safdie, who co-directed “Uncut Gems“, and also features Emily Blunt in its cast.
