Recently, Armie Hammer has re-emerged in public life, following allegations of cannibalism, sexual impropriety, and assault that severely impacted his career. However, despite these controversies, he hasn’t secured studio work as yet. Nonetheless, one of his past colleagues is expressing backing for the actor.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Tarsem Singh expressed his ongoing appreciation for actor Dominic Cooper’s acting abilities, stating that the media attention surrounding his personal life shouldn’t influence his professional success in any way. Tarsem Singh had previously cast Cooper as a prince opposite Lily Collins’ Snow White and Julia Roberts’ wicked queen in the 2012 film “Mirror Mirror.”
Director Tarsem Singh, who previously worked with actor Dominic Cooper on the movie “Mirror Mirror” (2012), says he continues to admire Cooper’s acting skills and believes that the media coverage about his personal life should not impact his career prospects.
Singh expresses his fondness for Armie Hammer. He hopes that any controversy surrounding adults’ private activities will soon blow over. As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, Singh is comfortable with the situation.” (The director clarifies that he is not privy to all details regarding the allegations against Hammer.)
Singh shares that he hadn’t watched Hammer’s standout portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in the 2010 movie “The Social Network,” but had a conversation about it with the film’s director, David Fincher. Prior to casting him for “Mirror Mirror,” Singh recalls meeting Hammer only once. In the process of selecting actors for “Mirror Mirror,” which is a modern retelling of the Brothers Grimm tale “Snow White,” there wasn’t much other significant competition for the role.
The director of ‘Immortals’ shared that they had a one-on-one encounter with him and exclaimed, ‘He’s hilarious! He’s clever! I adore him,'” the director enthused. “He fit my requirements perfectly.
Singh mentions that Hammer had been scheduled to play the lead alongside Johnny Depp in “The Lone Ranger,” directed by Gore Verbinski, back in 2011. However, Disney postponed production on “The Lone Ranger” due to budget concerns, pushing it back from the same year as “Mirror Mirror.” Eventually, “The Lone Ranger” was filmed in 2012 and released in 2013, but it failed to impress both critics and audiences.
Man, let me tell you, my feelings towards ‘The Lone Ranger’ movie have always been strong. Despite what many might say, I believe it got an unfair reputation. You know, I adore this film, but it seems like admitting that isn’t cool. Somehow, loving ‘The Lone Ranger’ is seen as a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing but respect for the director, and I think the movie functioned quite well. It simply wasn’t the perfect film at the perfect moment, and some sequences were longer than others.
After several allegations of sexual misconduct emerged against him in 2021, Armie Hammer’s career suffered a significant blow. Consequently, he was let go by agency WME and replaced in various projects. Although he has maintained that the relationships were consensual, he has admitted to being emotionally abusive towards the women. Last year, Hammer announced his podcast “Armie HammerTime“. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he has been refusing acting jobs because of his packed schedule. Upcoming, Hammer will co-star with Thomas Jane in the independent Western movie titled “Frontier Crucible“.
When queried on the Disney remake of Snow White and the ongoing discussions about actresses Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, their political views, and other personal matters, Singh sympathizes with actors under the limelight. Yet, he points out that people can draw attention to themselves through their social media activities.
Singh remarks, “Everything you express through speech and breath is under intense examination,” he says. “I can’t imagine the lifestyle of these individuals, and they all maintain such a strong social media presence. Frankly, I believe I would have been ‘canceled’ before anything began since I don’t use Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. My mouth just gets me into too much trouble with those platforms.
Singh further touches upon the topic of old social media posts reappearing and sparking debates. This issue has been particularly evident during this year’s Oscar season, where a flurry of controversy surrounded actress Karla Sofía Gascón due to resurfaced tweets from Emilia Pérez.

The performers face a challenging situation, as their past actions are not only scrutinized immediately but also revisited later on. When we’re young and inexperienced, we often don’t realize the impact of our actions, thinking they won’t matter much. However, things change, and as the filmmaker explains, ‘What seemed insignificant then, matters now.’ I couldn’t have anticipated this, but thankfully, I don’t enjoy engaging in such online activities. It’s a paradoxical situation: they crave followers, yet when their personal content isn’t well-received, it can lead to a harsh reevaluation of their past actions.
