2024 marked the beginning of THR’s The Art of the Oscar project, where they enlisted 11 prominent artists from various locations across North America – ranging from Los Angeles to Guadalajara and New York City. Each artist was tasked with creating their unique interpretation of an Academy Award statue, accompanied by a personalized acceptance speech and insights into their creative inspirations. Kenny Scharf’s heartfelt and humorous acceptance speech resonated with many: “I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who has ever supported me. But no, this isn’t about me. Goodbye… Bye.
The artists showcased in the exhibition of last year were Scharf, Seth Bogart, Jose Davila, Trulee Hall, Chaz Guest, Vincent Pocsik, Polly Borland, Alake Shilling, Isabelle Brourman, Karl Haendel and Karon Davis. This exhibition was first revealed at the Jeffrey Deitch Gallery in Hollywood, and it was exclusively publicized in THR.
