Disney Drops New Frozen 3 Details, But I'm More Excited About A Different Frozen Project Coming To Disney+

As a longtime Disney enthusiast who grew up with Anna and Elsa’s frosty adventures, I can’t help but be thrilled about the latest developments in the Frozen franchise! The confirmation of Frozen 3 is certainly exciting news, but as someone who has patiently waited for over seven years since the last installment, I find myself more eagerly anticipating a different project: the Broadway adaptation coming to Disney+.

If you’ve been feeling like you’re ready to let go of any updates on the Frozen front because it feels like forever since we heard anything new, get ready to be thrilled! Disney has finally dropped some major details about the third movie in the Frozen franchise, and there might even be more films for Anna and Elsa down the line. However, what has me truly pumped isn’t just the upcoming film – it’s a different Frozen project coming to Disney+ that I can’t wait to stream!

New Frozen 3 Details

It’s been over a year since the announcement of a third “Frozen” movie, but we didn’t get many specifics back then. However, details have recently emerged during the D23 Expo’s Disney Entertainment Showcase panel. As per the announcement by “Frozen” franchise writer and director Jennifer Lee, the release date for “Frozen 3” is now set for the year 2027.

Lee mentioned that it “may require two movies” to fully address the unresolved questions from when Frozen 2 was released in 2019. While she didn’t explicitly state it, it seems like the next movie in the series might be setting up a two-part story arc on the big screen.

It’s uncertain when exactly “Frozen 3” will debut in 2027, but based on the pattern set by the first two films, a pre-Thanksgiving release in November seems probable. During the presentation, we got our first glimpse at concept art for the second “Frozen” sequel, which depicts Elsa riding a white horse and Anna riding a brown one, both dressed in outfits similar to those worn in “Frozen 2”. Olaf is shown on Anna’s horse as well.

Behind the sisters stands, seemingly, a dark figure resembling a Viking brandishing a spear. In front of them, it appears as though there’s a castle floating in the clouds. Overall, there’s much to anticipate… However, considering how far into the future that might be, I’m more eager for something coming up sooner.

Broadway’s Frozen Is Coming To Disney+

In 2018, the storyline from the initial Frozen film was transformed into a Broadway musical, predating the franchise’s second movie release. This production generally adheres to the movie’s plot, but includes some alterations and enhancements that make it an engaging watch for fans of the 2012 original, despite their diehard status.

As a lifelong fan of Disney movies and a frequent theatergoer, I must say that experiencing “Frozen: The Broadway Musical” during its tour to my hometown was nothing short of magical. It was like stepping into Arendelle itself, with the stunning sets, captivating music, and enchanting performances bringing the story vividly to life on stage.

Instead of being thrilled about Frozen 3, I’m actually looking forward to the musical coming to Disney+ more. This is because the musical is set to start streaming akin to Hamilton in 2025. Assuming Frozen 3 doesn’t premiere until November 2027, this project could be available two years before Elsa and Anna’s next big screen adventure. Therefore, it makes sense to get excited for the one that will arrive first.

More to come…
