Marvel Studios and Disney have surprised MCU enthusiasts by adjusting the release dates for not one but two upcoming blockbusters: “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Insiders have shared insights into this unexpected move, as these next Avengers movies are anticipated to be among the largest superhero films ever made, with fans worldwide eagerly marking their calendars for these highly-anticipated premieres.
Disney has postponed the premiere dates for both “Avengers: Doomday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Instead of hitting theaters on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027 respectively, these movies will now screen in cinemas on December 18, 2026 for “Doomday” and December 17, 2027 for “Secret Wars”. This means that both films have been delayed by more than half a year from their previously announced release dates.
Disney insiders shared with Deadline that this delay provides Marvel additional time to bring their grand plan to life, as these two films are anticipated to rank among the largest releases ever. Furthermore, they highlighted how the new movies’ release in December is significant, given that Spider-Man: No Way Home achieved tremendous success with its debut on December 17, 2021.
To give you some idea, the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” shattered numerous box office records when it was released in 2021. Its theater run ended with a total earnings of $1.92 billion, placing it sixth among the highest-grossing movies of all time and making it Marvel’s most profitable non-Avengers film to date.
