Disney World and Universal Orlando to Reopen Friday After Hurricane Milton Batters Florida

As a seasoned Florida resident and avid theme park enthusiast who has navigated numerous hurricane seasons, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and anticipation as Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando announce their reopening. The closures due to Hurricane Milton have been uncommon, and the thought of missing out on my annual fall visit to these magical places was almost too much to bear!

Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are set to resume operations this coming Friday, having temporarily closed due to the unusual occurrence caused by Hurricane Milton that led to the unexpected shutting down of Florida’s theme parks.

The firms earlier declared a gradual shutdown commencing on Wednesday, intending to stay closed on the following day as well. However, their hotels continued operations to cater to guests.

Now both Disney and Universal say that they expect their theme parks to reopen Friday.

Disney expressed gratitude that Walt Disney World Resort survived the storm, and they’re now evaluating the effects on their property to ready it for the reopening of the theme parks, Disney Springs, and potentially other places on October 11. They also sympathize with those Floridians who were affected by this storm.

According to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts, Universal might start operating some of its businesses as early as Thursday.

Roberts announced at the Bloomberg Screentime conference on Thursday that our theme parks will likely open both tomorrow and possibly tonight as well, with CityWalk [Universal Orlando’s retail and entertainment complex] remaining operational too.

He mentioned that the media did an excellent job in alerting the public, which was given serious consideration. Additionally, Comcast has a significant number of cable customers affected by Hurricane Milton, and Roberts stated that they have 1,000 employees on site to manage the situation post-hurricane.

We deeply sympathize with everyone affected by Hurricane Milton, and we’re committed to aiding our community in its recovery. We’re also incredibly thankful for the tireless efforts of our staff during these difficult times. In a statement on our website, we expressed this sentiment. On October 11th, we eagerly anticipate welcoming back our visitors as we resume regular operations at all our theme parks, CityWalk, and Halloween Horror Nights.

On Wednesday evening, Hurricane Milton struck Florida’s western coast, causing a broad impact statewide with numerous instances of strong winds, tornadoes, flooding, and power failures. Notably, Disney World seldom shuts down during its half-century of operation, but hurricanes are the primary reason for such closures.
