Disneyland Is Finally Bringing A Star Wars Character To Galaxy’s Edge Fans Have Wanted Since It Opened

Initially, when Disney unveiled a theme park area exclusively for Star Wars enthusiasts from across the galaxy, fans went into a frenzy. This iconic movie franchise wasn’t just getting another attraction, as it had since the Star Tours opened in the ’80s; instead, it was slated to receive an entire land dedicated to it. The anticipation lay in the promise of unprecedented immersion that Disney Parks hadn’t offered before.

Although some fans may have expected to see their favorite Star Wars characters, not everyone received exactly what they hoped for. The strategy of the land aimed to give guests an authentic Star Wars experience by setting it within the ongoing sequel trilogy timeline. Consequently, classic figures such as Han Solo and Darth Vader were absent from this specific era.

Over the past few years that rigid storytelling has become more flexible as characters from outside that specific era have begun to appear. But now Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is taking its biggest step to date away from the sequel trilogy by bringing in its first original trilogy character. Today Disney Parks revealed on Instagram that Luke Skywalker is coming to Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.

In this new portrayal, Luke Skywalker will be seen donning black attire, reminiscent of his appearance in “Return of the Jedi.” Further details are to be revealed on February 10th, but it seems that the character’s debut is planned for the beginning of Season of the Force – a Star Wars-themed event taking place at Disneyland from March 28th to May 11th.

It’s quite likely that he’ll participate in Star Wars Night, an exclusive event happening on certain nights in April and May. As for whether Luke will only appear as a special guest during the Star Wars event or if his appearances will continue into the future, those specifics are still uncertain. We might find out more when additional information is released next week.

Of course, it’s no secret that many Star Wars enthusiasts are overjoyed to find Luke Skywalker among the characters in Galaxy’s Edge. They had been disappointed before due to the storyline that kept him from making an appearance. Initially, Galaxy’s Edge was designed to take place after the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which made it impossible even for an older Luke to be included.

The main drawback regarding this news is that, as of now, Luke is the only confirmed character from the new storylines appearing at Disneyland. Although Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World shares a lot of similarities with its Disneyland counterpart, many intriguing characters introduced in Batuu West, such as Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano, and Sabine Wren, who have distorted the timeline, haven’t been seen yet at the east coast location. So far, only The Mandalorian and Grogu are the new-timeline characters making an appearance in Orlando.

Given that the initial dam has been breached, it leaves one pondering the proximity of the remaining characters. I would venture to guess that it’s no longer a matter of if, but rather when we’ll encounter figures like Princess Leia, Han Solo, or Darth Vader again.
