‘Doc’ Renewed for Full Second Season at Fox

Fox is going all-in on its first-year medical drama Doc.

The television network has reinstated Molly Parker’s series for another season, marking it as a traditional 22-episode season, demonstrating faith in its success following impressive early viewership ratings. The show, known as Doc, is currently attracting around 2.3 million viewers on the same day (as per Nielsen), but this number significantly increases with streaming on Hulu and other delayed viewing platforms. Fox reports that the pilot episode, initially aired on January 7th, has reached approximately 16 million viewers across all platforms, including rebroadcasts on air.

Doc is jointly produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment Studios. Barbie Kligman serves as the showrunner, while Hank Steinberg and Erwin Stoff also take on executive producer roles.

Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network, expressed his excitement that viewers have taken to the first season of Doc. He praised Barbie and Hank for their exceptional work in creating one of television’s most emotionally impactful series. Given the superb work of this dedicated team, along with our partners at Sony, and a stellar cast headed by Molly Parker, it was an effortless choice to renew the show for a second season.

Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures TV Studios, expressed her delight, “We’re thrilled that ‘Doc’ has been renewed for a second season! This is a reflection of the outstanding writing, spellbinding performances from our skilled cast, and the overwhelming appreciation from viewers. We can’t thank Fox enough for their steadfast backing as we move forward in creating more episodes of this series.

16 million viewers tuned in for the premiere of ‘Doc’s’, a figure that represents six weeks of viewing and stands as the highest cross-platform rating for a Fox series debut (excluding those following NFL games) since ‘911: Lone Star’ in January 2020. Remarkably, the show’s viewership has increased every week since its premiere over the past three weeks.

Additionally, Parker is joined by the regular cast members Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, and Anya Banerjee. Scott Wolf and Patrick Walker appear frequently in the series as well.

Doc teams up with other newcomers, “Murder in a Small Town” and “Universal Basic Guys,” to secure a second season on the network as well.
