Doctor Doomsday: The Marvel & DC Character We’ll Never See In An Avengers Movie

Doctor Doomsday: The Marvel & DC Character We'll Never See In An Avengers Movie

As a lifelong fan who’s seen more comic books than I care to admit, the idea of Doctor Doomsday from the Amalgam universe gracing our screens is like striking gold in a mine filled with fool’s gold. The prospect of Marvel Studios and DC joining forces might seem like a logistical and financial nightmare, but hey, if Spider-Man could dance between Sony and Marvel, who knows what magic could be woven with the Amalgam universe?

If you found the idea of Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe a bit far-fetched, there are other intriguing possibilities that Marvel Studios could have explored that might have been even more mind-boggling. In a universe where characters like variants and anchor beings are common, there was once a time when Doctor Doom became twice as menacing after merging with a character not from the realm of thunder gods or mutants but from that of dark knights and superheroes. This fusion occurred in a limited series of comics known as the Amalgam universe, which resulted from an event where DC and Marvel worlds clashed. The aftermath of this collision led to significant characters merging to create new entities. For instance, Wolverine and Batman formed Dark Claw, Superboy and Spider-Man became Spider-Boy, and Doctor Doom merged with one of Superman’s most dreaded enemies to become Doctor Doomsday.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “In my imaginary world, I’ve merged the chilling antagonists, creating a character named Doc Doomsday. This fusion saw Victor von Doom undergo a scientific experiment, merging him with an alien beast he stumbled upon. Labeled as ‘evil personified’ by the heroes in this limited series, Doc Doomsday boasts Victor’s intellect and the unyielding brutality of Doomsday. His powers make him a formidable opponent across the cosmos, but one thing stands between him and the big screen – ownership rights.”

Amalgam is co-owned by Marvel and DC

Merging Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios would be an exciting spectacle for fans, but it could also bring about significant organizational and financial challenges. Take the case of Spider-Man, who is shared between Sony’s universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as an example. The ownership rights surrounding this character are complex, making collaborations tricky. In the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Sony reaped most of the profits, with only 25% going to Marvel Studios. This is because Spider-Man was on loan from Kevin Feige’s team, a deal that required some negotiating. At one point in time, even Tom Holland, the actor portraying Spider-Man, had to step in and use his negotiation skills to keep the project moving forward.

Given this perspective, it seems logical that studios, such as Warner Bros. and Disney, wouldn’t entertain the idea of a more intricate comic book universe like Amalgam. Each studio already has a substantial playground for their creative endeavors without needing to collaborate, especially since Warner Bros., after some missteps with the DC Extended Universe, may not be inclined to do so at this time. However, the head of Marvel Studios continues to ponder the possibility that their teams could one day intertwine comic book movie narratives, despite it currently being a highly improbable dream.

Kevin Feige says never say ‘never’ to DC and Marvel collaboration

During a conversation with Collider regarding the potential future of “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Kevin Feige was asked about the intriguing idea of DC and Marvel characters sharing the big screen. He acknowledged that as a fan, he sometimes ponders this exciting scenario, but expressed uncertainty about when or how it could take place. However, he also hinted that it’s not entirely out of the question, suggesting that ongoing discussions have made such a collaboration seem less impossible.

As a gaming enthusiast who’s always up for surprises, it feels like anything could happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after seeing the return of heroes like Deadpool and Wolverine alongside multiple Spider-Men in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. But for now, Kevin Feige is relishing the fun rivalry as he watches what director James Gunn has cooking over at DC Studios. I won’t rule out anything forever, but there are no concrete plans right now. I’ve caught glimpses of the ‘Superman’ set looking awesome, so he’s deep into that project. Meanwhile, we’re keeping our focus on ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.

Although it appears an Amalgam universe isn’t plausible at present, it’s intriguing to ponder the notion of DC and Marvel uniting, hidden as it is beneath that famous collection of caps. Yet, for now, Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the comic book film scene provides more than enough excitement. Let’s tackle one epic event at a time, shall we?
