As a devoted fan who has followed Ryan Murphy’s career since the early days of “Nip/Tuck,” I must say, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride! From the highs of “Glee” to the chills of “American Horror Story,” he never fails to surprise us. And now, with the success of “Doctor Odyssey,” it seems like he’s taken his creative genius to the high seas!
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I’ve got to admit that when it comes to Ryan Murphy, I’m always left in awe. Just when you think he can’t get any more scorching hot, he goes and creates another smashing TV series! Known for masterpieces like Glee, American Horror Story, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Ryan is certainly celebrating quite a bit these days. Not only is there a whirlwind of excitement surrounding his latest Netflix production, but also the debut of Doctor Odyssey on ABC, which he played a significant role in co-creating. And let me tell you, it’s been a ratings juggernaut across the board!
As a die-hard fan here, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! According to Deadline, my favorite show, “Doctor Odyssey,” has truly made a splash in its debut week with an astounding 13.6 million cross-platform viewers. This figure represents a whopping 230% increase from its opening day audience of 4.13 million. Incredibly, it now ranks among the select few shows that have grown their viewership to over 10 million in just the first seven days after airing on network television, thanks to streaming platforms. In fact, during its first three days, a staggering 7.59 million people tuned in – a clear testament to the unique and captivating premise that has piqued the interest of so many viewers, making them eager to find out more about this amazing series!
Instead of the usual medical dramas set within hospitals, Doctor Odyssey breaks with tradition to offer an exhilarating maritime journey. This series stars Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman, a fresh recruit on a luxury cruise liner who, alongside his team, confronts various healthcare issues. Joining him are Phillipa Soo as Nurse Avery Morgan and Sean Teale as Nurse Tristan Silva, with Don Johnson taking the role of Captain Robert Massey. Notable guest stars include John Stamos, Gina Gerson, and country music icon Shania Twain. Each episode centers around a specific theme such as Plastic Surgery Week, Wellness Week, and Halloween Week, which will be broadcast later this month.
Ryan Murphy Is On Fire Right Now
Following the achievement of “Doctor Odyssey”, Murphy can proudly add another accomplishment to his collection, as his list of successful projects continues to expand. Notably, the controversial series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” has been a significant success for Netflix, with some suggesting that the controversy surrounding it may have even boosted its popularity. Now, this anthology series has been renewed for a third season, with the upcoming installment centering on the infamous serial killer Ed Gein, played by Charlie Hunnam.
The show “Grostesquerie,” featuring Niecy Nash-Betts and Micaela Diamond, has been well-received by critics, boasting a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Murphy’s other ABC series, “9-1-1,” consistently draws good viewership numbers, as evidenced by its latest season launch with an intriguing plotline involving the breakout of 22 million deadly bees. Now that’s quite a buzz!
To put it simply, if you thought Murphy was already annoying before, be prepared to feel utterly repulsed, as we are yet to see the premiere of American Horror Stories this month, along with several other upcoming shows that he is involved in. These include the legal drama All’s Fair and another anthology series called American Love Story.
