Doechii Delivers Dynamic Self-Choreographed Performance on ‘Colbert’

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for music, especially hip-hop, I was thoroughly captivated by Doechii‘s performance on The Late Show. Coming from someone who has spent countless hours dancing in rhythm-based video games, her self-choreographed medley of “BOILED PEANUTS” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER” was a breath of fresh air.

2022 hasn’t seen the last of Doechii’s remarkable year. Following the conclusion of her “Alligator Bites Never Heal Tour,” which accompanied her critically-acclaimed album, and garnering several Grammy nominations, Top Dawg Entertainment’s Swamp Princess took to Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show” for her first self-choreographed performance of two notable singles from the album.

To start her performance, The Don played a blend of “BOILED PEANUTS” and “DENIAL IS A RIVER.” She began with the lively “BOILED PEANUTS,” then skillfully incorporated “DENIAL IS A RIVER” into the flow. Accompanying her on stage were two dancers, who wore similar outfits and were tied together by braided hair extensions. This created a visually striking connection between them and The Don.

In a post on X, she expressed that the heritage of Hip Hop has deeply influenced her identity.

“For the first time, I choreographed and performed a routine that showcased my bond with black women through Hip Hop. With Malcom Marquez’s assistance, we managed to bring this meaningful art performance into reality within a week.

This one is for Hip Hop.
