Does Xbox Even Have Any Games This Year? (2025 Edition)

Has Xbox released any new games this year? The highly-anticipated titles such as Avowed and South of Midnight have already been launched to great acclaim. However, what’s the plan moving forward since these flagship exclusives have already been unveiled? Where do Microsoft focus their attention now that their most awaited games have been released?

Over the last few years, since Microsoft adopted the “Xbox Family of Consoles” approach, exclusive games have been released sporadically and not always with great fanfare or success. This has frequently been attributed to Xbox’s unpredictable marketing efforts. For instance, Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga was successful on its own merit, but it didn’t receive much attention after its release, mainly because of Microsoft’s puzzling marketing choices.

Both “Avowed” and “South of Midnight” ran strong marketing efforts, which proved effective based on their sales figures. This is positive news for the companies and their respective development studios. Despite facing organized harassment attempts from critics of “wokeness”, these games have managed to achieve success nonetheless.

33 Immortals has been released this year too. It’s an action-packed roguelike game with a twist – players band together to defy God’s final verdict. The gameplay is swift and intense, with formidable bosses that hark back to Hades, providing a unique yet recognizable experience for roguelike enthusiasts. At the moment, it can only be played on the Epic Games Store and Xbox.

With those games behind us, what’s next for Microsoft in 2025? Excitingly, several new games are yet to be released this year. Although many don’t have a fixed release date as of now, Microsoft has promised they will arrive before the end of the year. Rest assured, Xbox is very much active and vibrant!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m buzzing with excitement about The Outer Worlds 2, a highly anticipated game rumored to drop in the third or fourth quarter. If Rockstar doesn’t surprise us with Grand Theft Auto VI around the same time, it could very well be the talk of the town! Additionally, Doom: Dark Ages, an action-packed masterpiece, is set to be one of Xbox’s shining stars and will hit shelves on May 25. I can hardly wait!

Among the two games, only Doom has an established launch date, while as of now, The Outer Worlds 2 does not.

Additionally, you’ll find that indie games (excluding Silksong for now) are upcoming as well. These less mainstream titles provide a refreshing break from the common stream of blockbuster launches. With Xbox Game Pass, numerous such games will be accessible to subscribers on their release day. Titles like the snug survival sim Winter Burrow, the vibrant Replaced, and the Lovecraftian road trip game Dead Static Drive are among those expected to debut this year, although specific launch dates have yet to be disclosed.

In a fair assessment, neither Sony nor Microsoft have more than two significant games scheduled for launch in the second half of 2025 as of now. Sony’s Ghost of Yotei appears to be their main release, and with Death Stranding 2 set to drop within the next couple of months, it seems rather improbable that any other substantial PlayStation exclusives will debut during autumn and winter.

Moving forward to the coming year, it seems that Microsoft is placing their bets on the upcoming Fable following its postponement. As for Xbox’s 2026 schedule, it remains shrouded in uncertainty. What might the future have in store for Microsoft by that time?
