As a die-hard fan of Bollywood, I must say that the announcement of Don 3 has sent my excitement levels soaring! With Farhan Akhtar at the helm and Ranveer Singh stepping into Shah Rukh Khan’s shoes, this trilogy is shaping up to be an unforgettable ride.

Since the unveiling of Don 3, movie enthusiasts have been buzzing with anticipation over this upcoming production. Don 3 represents the third chapter of Farhan Akhtar’s directing series, Don franchise, and stars Ranveer Singh as the central character. Previously, Farhan guided Shah Rukh Khan for Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011), but now he has disclosed that casting Ranveer in Don 3 presents a fresh challenge for him.

In a recent podcast hosted by YouTube’s Raj Shamani, Farhan Akhtar was questioned about casting Ranveer Singh in Don 3 and why he hadn’t considered a trilogy with Shah Rukh Khan earlier. Farhan explained that the script for Don 3 called for a dynamic, young actor like Ranveer, whom he described as charismatic, playful, and full of energy.

The actor-filmmaker believes that Ranveer hasn’t performed a role like what he will be playing in the upcoming Don installment in his career. He said that the Simmba actor’s performance is still “untapped” in a certain aspect.

In simpler terms, the director of ‘Don’ noted that up until now, Ranveer Singh has portrayed boisterous characters in his films, with the exception of ‘Lootera’. The filmmaker mentioned that these roles were tailored to Ranveer’s character and were more about expressing an external persona.

Farhan mentioned about Don 3, “Don calls for a unique acting style from him. There seems to be an inner restraint he needs to portray, something I believe he hasn’t attempted before. I think this role offers a fascinating challenge for him.”

When asked about the possibility of a trilogy with Farhan and SRK, the director disclosed that during the process of making Don 3, they encountered creative disagreements, which prevented them from achieving harmony in the script development.

The actor-director disclosed that they collaboratively endeavored to produce a trilogy, brainstormed concepts, and drafted some material, yet failed to achieve the desired alignment. Ultimately, they jointly chose to part ways, the director noted.

In August 2023, a sneak peek of Don 3, featuring Ranveer Singh, was revealed. Farhan Akhtar shared this teaser on X (previously known as Twitter), also showing Ranveer’s appearance in the upcoming movie. He captioned it, “A New Era Starts #Don3.”

When asked about it, he gleamed with anticipation and shared, “Next year, we embark on Don 3’s journey. I can hardly wait!” And the cherry on top? The radiant Kiara Advani will join forces with Farhan in this highly anticipated sequel.

In 2006, the film “Don” was a fresh take on the 1978 movie with the same title. The original “Don,” released in 1978, featured Amitabh Bachchan as the main character. Alongside him were Zeenat Aman and Helen.

In the 2006 movie titled “Don,” Shah Rukh Khan took on the main antagonist character. Priyanka Chopra was chosen to play Roma, while the cast also included Kareena Kapoor, Isha Koppikar, Arjun Rampal, and Boman Irani. The 2011 release, “Don 2,” served as a sequel to the original film, with Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra reprising their roles in leading positions.

In terms of his career, Farhan Akhtar recently appeared in Toofaan in 2021. Earlier this year, he produced Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express. Coming up, he will be involved in producing Agni, Yudhra, and Ground Zero.

As a director, apart from the Don franchise, Farhan has helmed Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya.
