At high noon, Donald Trump, who has been elected president, will be swearing in by placing his hand on a Bible. This act signifies his commitment to safeguard the USA, as he assumes the presidency once more, within the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
On a cold day in Washington D.C., Trump’s inauguration takes place, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Fahrenheit and wind speeds of up to 31 miles per hour, as reported by the National Weather Service. Interestingly, Ronald Reagan was the only president prior to Trump whose inauguration was moved from the West Front of the Capitol Rotunda in 1985, a fact that Trump acknowledged in his announcement about the move on Friday. The Chief Justice John Roberts will be presiding over Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.
Moving the event within the Capitol building has drastically decreased the number of attendees for the inauguration, with estimates suggesting that approximately half of the original 250,000 ticket holders won’t be able to see President Trump being sworn in a second time. Instead of gathering on the West Front platform, which can accommodate 1600 people, the event will now take place in the Rotunda, which has a capacity of around 750 people.
Trump shared on Friday that this event is sure to be an incredibly stunning experience for everyone involved, and it’s particularly going to captivate the vast television audience.
As a gamer speaking about real-world events, I, as an imaginary entity, am about to witness the inauguration of J.D. Vance, who is on the verge of taking office as Vice President. Interestingly enough, it’s Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh who has been chosen to administer the oath of office; coincidentally, Kavanaugh was once my wife Usha Vance’s boss when she clerked for him at the U.S. Court of Appeals’ D.C. Circuit.
In his inaugural speech, Trump plans to talk about a “shift towards practical thinking” and is likely to start signing a series of executive orders as soon as Monday, aimed at drastically changing immigration policies and declaring an emergency situation along the U.S.-Mexico border.
On Monday, some notable figures from the tech industry will join the usual attendees at the inauguration, such as the families of the president-elect and vice president-elect, former presidents and their spouses, dignitaries, cabinet members, nominees, military leaders, and others. Among these individuals will be Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, who had a close relationship with Trump during his campaign and was rumored to be considered for a cabinet position. Other tech moguls expected to attend include Mark Zuckerberg from Meta, Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Shou Zi Chew from TikTok, and Sam Altman from OpenAI. These individuals hail from the Silicon Valley area.
On a Monday morning, New York City Mayor Eric Adams got an unexpected invitation to the inauguration event, and his office confirmed he intends to show up. Previously, in September, Adams pleaded not guilty after being indicted on bribery and campaign finance allegations. Interestingly, he dined with Trump last Friday. Moreover, the Trump team disclosed that Han Zheng, China’s vice president, will participate as well.
To catch the inauguration ceremony, which kicked off at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time/11:30 a.m. Eastern Time, you can tune into ABC, CBS, CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC, NBC, or PBS. Alternatively, you can stream the event on DirecTV, Frndly, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Paramount+, Philo, or Sling.
