As a long-time Horizon fan, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing that the development of Horizon 3 might be delayed or even scrapped altogether. I’ve followed Aloy’s journey since the first game, and the thought of not exploring more of this captivating world leaves me feeling hollow.
It seems we’ll need to be patient a bit longer for Aloy’s next potential journey, as Guerrilla Games has announced they are directing their efforts towards different projects.
As a dedicated fan, I’d like to share some insights from Jason Schreier, a renowned journalist and author, during his recent interview with Spawn Wave’s Spawncast. He hinted that the much-anticipated Horizon 3 might take some time before it reaches our gaming screens, stating that “it might be a ways off.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my concerns about PlayStation’s persistent focus on live-service projects. The potential Horizon Online project remains unannounced, yet its absence of formal announcements is troubling given Sony’s track record with such ventures. If past failures in their live-service catalog are any indication, the future might not be as bright as we’d hope for the company.
It’s possible that Horizon Online may adopt a live-service model, like The Last of Us Factions (which has been canceled). Moreover, there is rich history and lore to explore in Guerrilla’s distant post-apocalyptic universe. Essentially, the game could resemble Arrowhead’s Helldivers II in terms of PvE structure.
As a devoted admirer, I pondered aloud: “With the impending release of the remaster for Horizon Zero Dawn and Lego Horizon Adventures on the horizon, I can’t help but wonder: What if neither of these titles gain significant traction, and interest in the Horizon series wanes? Does Guerilla Games and Sony still have plans for their online game?” My query, I fear, might add to their perplexity regarding their strategic choices.
The topic of Remakes and Remasters have been met with criticism over the years as Sony continues to re-release games that just came out at the height of their graphical prowess. Known examples include the Last Of Us Part II Remastered and the Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered.
Over the past few weeks, Sony has encountered a significant amount of criticism, which encompasses removing Concord from their PlayStation marketplaces and the confusing pricing structure associated with the rumored PlayStation 5 Pro model.
Of course it is not all bad at PlayStation. The recent State of Play unveiled a few notable games that could spark new interest in the console. Games such as the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yotei, could definitely add numbers to Sony’s sales numbers.
As a gamer, I can personally vouch that Astro Bot was a smashing hit for Sony. The masterpiece crafted by Team ASOBI, their enchanting platformer, has earned a plethora of accolades for being an ode to gaming itself. It’s jam-packed with appearances from legendary games like LocoRoco, Uncharted, God of War, and many more iconic titles that left me grinning ear to ear.
Regrettably, Horizon 3 has some distance yet to cover. The path Aloy takes following Horizon: Forbidden West is still shrouded in secrecy, though followers of the franchise have a good idea of where it might lead – perhaps across continents, or even beyond our own world into the cosmos.
Horizon Online, being a shift for Guerrilla and Sony, seems unusual, yet it might just be the success they’ve been aiming for.
