As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours crafting worlds and composing symphonies of sound within virtual realms, I find myself resonating with Dr. Dre‘s sentiments. Like him, I value continuity and the artistic journey that comes from working closely with a collaborator.
Dr. Dre expresses his viewpoints regarding multiple-artist albums, suggesting that working with a single collaborator might prove advantageous.
As a fan, I’m excited to share a recent conversation between the artist and Snoop Dogg with ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith. When asked about the current state of the game, Dr. Dre shared his thoughts from a producer’s perspective:
Dre himself didn’t mention who or when initiated the trend of multiple producers, but he made clear his disapproval by saying, “I’m not a fan of it. If you’re a producer, your role should encompass creating an entire album. That’s what I always understood and that’s what I was doing initially.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: Back in the day, there were more producers crafting the entire track, but today we got more beatmakers just adding their own flavors. “See, that’s what sets our time apart from yours – fewer big-time producers, but plenty of beatmakers,” I’d say. “Making beats these days is a breeze with all these software tools. You guys had to build the loops from scratch.
Dre remains positive about the future, though, reaffirming in his belief that there are artists out there that will break the current mould of hip-hop. “I feel like a change is happening right now, from all this mumble rap and everything that’s happening right now. There’s somebody in somebody’s garage that’s gonna be the next Snoop or Dre, the next Prince or Michael Jackson, whatever, that’s coming up with something that’s gonna change the game.”
