As an ardent admirer of cinematic artistry, I find myself utterly captivated by the remarkable journey of Dr. K. Ramesh Kamath, a veritable titan in the realm of Konkani cinema. At 72, this esteemed filmmaker continues to weave tales that resonate deeply with audiences, his latest offering being the profoundly philosophical Anthyarambha.
72-year-old acclaimed movie maker, Dr. K. Ramesh Kamath, an alumnus of Poona Film Institute (FTII) and recipient of the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy honor, is gearing up to debut his latest Konkani film titled Anthyarambha. This project, produced by Kiranmayi Kamath and directed by Dr. Kamath himself, was filmed entirely in Mercara. Editing and re-recording have been completed, with the final step of seeking censorship approval now being processed.
Dr. K. Ramesh Kamath discloses an impressive fact about the Saraswath Konkani language cinema: just eight films have been produced in it so far. This is quite remarkable in the world of filmmaking. Interestingly, Dr. Kamath has played a significant role in this specialized field, with his latest work “Anthyarambha” being his fourth film. His previous three productions have significantly added to this unique cinematic genre.
The film presents a deep, thoughtful tale about an aging character who ponders his past, offering wisdom that underscores how every conclusion in life marks a new beginning. Remarkably, this 90-minute production was skillfully completed within just 40 days, showcasing both productivity and commitment to bring this introspective story to the screen.
In the movie Anthyarambha, Dr. Ramesh Kamath plays the part of an older narrator, while Damodhar Nayak and Prathiksha Kamath take on the leading roles as a pair. A large cast backs these main characters, with notable performers like Vitobha Bhandarkar, Stany Alveres, Uday Jadugar, Sheela Nayak, Vasudha Prabhu, Ananth Nayak Sagri, Narasimha Nayak, young actors Master Aadithya Kamath, and Master Yatharth Shenoy.
Among the notable actors in the cast are Sandeep Malani, Prakash Kini, Umesh Shenoy, Krishna Nayak, Anand Nagarkar, Vinutha Kiran, Govindraya Shanbhag, Vanchira Jaya Nanjappa, Dr. Radhakrishna Nayak, and Sathyanarayan Nayak.
In this production, Anthyarambha unites a talented team of technicians. PVR Swamy is our cinematographer, Nagesh Narayan handles editing duties, and Abhiyogi supervises digital imaging (DI). The film’s ambiance is enhanced by the musical composition of Srisuresh, further elevated by Shankar Shanbhougue’s melodious vocals. Dialogue writer Sha Mam Krishna Rao contributes to the storyline, while Dr. Ramesh Kamath, the creative force behind this project, wears several hats, including story development, screenplay, lyrics, and direction.
In November 2024, Dr. Ramesh Kamath is planning to unveil Anthyarambha to a global audience. This movie, significant for Saraswath Konkani cinema, aims to rekindle enthusiasm for preserving and appreciating the Konkani language and culture.
