Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D: How to Get the Magic Key

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the journey to retrieve the Magic Key in Dragon Quest 3 Remake was one for the books. The Great Pyramid, with its traps, enemies, and puzzles, is a daunting labyrinth that requires meticulous planning and preparation.

The Magic Key helps you unlock doors and keep moving west of Romaria in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

On the other hand, acquiring it involves traversing the treacherous Great Pyramid, laden with pitfalls, adversaries, and enigmas.

This article shows you how to get the Magic Key in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

How to Get the Magic Key

Before heading to the Pyramid, ensure you are well-equipped.

The nearby desert town of Ibis (located south of the Pyramid) is the ideal place to stock up and prepare.

Stock up your group’s supplies with both “Holy Water” and “Magical Healing Waters.” These include potions such as “Elfin Elixirs” or “Sage’s Elixirs,” which can restore health and magical power points.

Make sure you’re equipped with items that can combat the Dazzle effect, as they’ll be crucial during the boss fight. Also, consider having a healer like a priest or a beast tamer in your team.

Ensure that every character advances to level 12 to handle the perils within the dungeon. Use the Zoom spell for instant transportation back to Ibis or any secure areas, in case of emergencies.

In the town of Ibis, make a stop at the castle and chat with kids around the throne room. They share an enigmatic verse about buttons that proves crucial for resolving a mystery found within the Pyramid, at a later point.

Memorizing or noting this riddle will save you trouble during your exploration:

“Old King Faro had four buttons, and two of them he blessed…First the eastest of the east, and then the westest of the west…The others he considered worse, and placed upon each one a curse…So touch them not, by Faro’s crown! Or we will all come tumbling down!”

The Pyramid stands in the northern desert, near the town of Ibis. Upon approach, you’ll notice two entries: the primary one and a secret one tucked away on the western facade.

Use the primary entrance instead; save the western one for later, as it leads down to the basement area that’s more enjoyable to explore at a later time.

It’s a multi-level dungeon full of traps, enemies, and loot, so stay sharp in the Pyramid.

First Floor (1F)

Once you step into the pyramid, you’ll encounter a long hallway dividing into multiple paths ahead.

Steer clear of gray floor tiles that have a scaled design, since they can give the illusion of leading you underground, an area where magic is ineffective.

In case of a fall, exit as quickly as possible and pick up your route on the first floor.

As a gamer, let me share some info about the foes on this stage: Mummy Boys, Overtoads, and Grillerpillars are my opponents here. I’d suggest focusing on the Bag o’ Laughs initially because they have a unique ability to heal themselves and their allies.

Explore the less-traveled paths for hidden riches, while making your way northward to discover the staircases leading up to the second level.

Second Floor (2F)

On the upper level, you’ll find winding passages with added challenges. Once you ascend the staircase, proceed directly toward the south and then make a turn to the west.

This will lead you to another staircase that takes you to the third floor.

As you explore, keep an eye out for hidden treasures and brace yourself for tougher foes.

As a fervent admirer, I’d like to suggest that we keep an eye out for more appearances of Bag o’ Laughs to ensure our discussions remain vibrant and engaging, rather than prolonging any potential disagreements.

Third Floor (3F)

The button puzzle needed to open the chamber with the Magic Key is on the third floor.

The southern section of this floor contains two chambers with several buttons.

Hitting the wrong buttons triggers traps that send you to the lower floor.

Refer to the children’s rhyme from Ibis to crack the puzzle:

  • Start with the easternmost button on the eastern wall.
  • Then press the westernmost button on the western wall.

Completing this sequence removes the barrier to the Magic Key chamber.

How to Defeat Ripper of the Rift

Before you can claim the Magic Key, you must defeat Ripper of the Rift and its two Kylla minions.

Start by focusing on eliminating the Kylla minions earlier in the battle, as their self-healing and ability to heal the boss can prolong the fight.

Electrical assaults, such as “Lightning Slash”, prove successful when aimed at an enemy’s vulnerability. Be certain to keep your healer on standby, maintaining the party’s Health Points (HP) above 50.

The Tear in the Rift inflicts substantial damage with its dual strikes. Keep in mind that it may also impose the disorienting Dazzle status, potentially hindering your ability to attack.

As a gamer, I’d recommend using anti-glare gear or activating my “Glare-Away” setting to counteract this issue. Once the Kyllas have been defeated, focus on the Ripper next.

In each turn, it has the ability to deal a double blow and inflict substantial harm. But remember, striking a delicate balance between attacking and healing is crucial for your ultimate triumph.

This encounter will push your party’s preparation and endurance, so be smart with your resources.

After you successfully vanquish Ripper of the Rift and its accompanying Kylla minions, a hidden chamber filled with treasures will be unveiled. Inside, you’ll find two crucial artifacts.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but sing praises for the Magic Key, my go-to tool for navigating the intricate world of this captivating game. This versatile item is my magic ticket to unlocking those elusive red and gray doors that seem to pop up everywhere!

Alongside the Magic Key, you’ll find a useful tool known as the Banishing Bell. This device can help steer clear of challenging encounters down the line, proving particularly beneficial when navigating treacherous dungeons or regions inhabited by formidable adversaries.

Possessing the Enchanted Key grants you entry to additional regions within the Pyramid. Riches lie on higher floors, but beware, for many are guarded by adversaries under a malevolent curse.

If your party is strong enough, these treasures can be great for the farming experience.

The basement also houses the Golden Claws, a powerful but cursed item dramatically increasing encounter rates.

exercise care while getting it, since the basement forbids magical practices, making fights harder.

Which healing items or strategies worked best for you in the Pyramid’s challenging battles?
