Drew Barrymore is getting candid about her reason for taking a step back from acting.
49-year-old actress, currently hosting the daytime talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show”, shares her insights on juggling Hollywood and parenthood in an interview for the February/March 2025 cover story of AARP The Magazine.
Barrymore stated, ‘At around 40 years old, I wasn’t learning how to become a self-sufficient, healthy person, or the kind of parent I aspire to be.’ Pretending to be someone else isn’t helping me discover this at the moment. Also, the lengthy film shoots meant fewer hours with my children. I had decided not to sacrifice those precious moments.'”

“Barrymore explained, ‘At around 40, I wasn’t learning how to be a self-reliant, healthy individual and the parent I wish to become.’ Impersonating others isn’t helping me find my path at this point. Furthermore, extended hours on film sets meant less time with my kids. I made a choice not to give up those precious moments.'”

“In her 40s, Barrymore said she wasn’t learning how to live independently as a healthy person or the kind of parent she desires to be. Pretending to be someone else isn’t helping her find her way at present. Moreover, long hours on film sets meant less time with her children. She decided not to sacrifice those precious moments.
Actress of the show “Santa Clarita Diet,” Drew Barrymore, has two daughters, Olive and Frankie, with her former husband, Will Kopelman. In her conversation with AARP, she opened up about her experiences during her divorce from Kopelman in 2016.
She shared that her ideal family was disintegrating, leaving her unsure of how to move forward. Growing up quickly, she found herself uncertain about her age, only aware that her life felt burdensome, sorrowful, and distressing. She remained in this state for some time.”
“Luckily, she managed to pull herself out of it. With two children depending on her, she had no choice but to find a way forward.
Barbara Barrymore began her acting career at an early age in Hollywood, featuring in Steven Spielberg’s film “E.T.” when she was just six years old. Throughout her career, she has been part of numerous productions, such as “Charlie’s Angels,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “50 First Dates,” among others.
In 2023, she shared with the Los Angeles Times her plans for possibly reappearing on-screen. She admitted that acting was not resonating emotionally with her at this moment in time.
At that moment, she expressed that she simply needs to be true to herself, finding it hard to pretend to be someone else. She also mentioned feeling unable to perform at the moment, acknowledging that this may seem disheartening and uncommitted, but she doesn’t intend for it to appear that way.
