As a devoted fan of both Daniel Craig’s mesmerizing performances and the captivating world of Outer Banks, I find myself utterly thrilled by the prospect of these two universes colliding. The idea that Drew Starkey, our beloved Rafe Cameron, is now sharing the silver screen with none other than James Bond himself is beyond exciting!
Drew Starkey has amassed a significant following due to his performance in “Outer Banks,” and he’s taking things to another level by acting alongside Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer.” With Season 4 of “OBX” set to air on TV schedules in 2024, and this movie slated for release among the year’s films, these two realms are merging. Interestingly, it’s not the first time “Outer Banks” and Daniel Craig’s projects have intersected, and Starkey, who plays Rafe, made a witty observation about it.
It’s clear that Drew Starkey is primarily recognized for his work on “Outer Banks.” In a conversation with MTV about the release of “Queer,” he was inquired if he introduced Daniel Craig to the Pogues world given that “OBX” is one of Netflix’s most popular shows for binge-watching. However, Starkey didn’t act upon it. Nevertheless, the actor did mention that Daniel Craig has collaborated with another cast member from the series, humorously stating:
No, even if I told him, I’d think he’d forget about it. He’d be like, ‘What?’ Yeah, no, he’s aware. But he’s worked with my dear friend Madelyn Cline as well. So, he’s collecting all of us, I think like Pokémon or something…it’s his master plan.
Indeed, I’m really looking forward to this grand scheme, and I can only wish that Craig’s run of collaborating with the cast from the Outer Banks persists!
To give you some background, Drew Starkey, best known for his role as Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks, also appears in Queer. Interestingly, in the Netflix series, he shares the screen with Madelyn Cline, who portrays his on-screen sister Sarah Cameron. Coincidentally, Madelyn Cline previously acted alongside the actor who played Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion.
As a devoted fan, I can easily envision talents like Chase Stokes or other outstanding actors from the OBX series, such as Rudy Pankow, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Carlacia Grant sharing the silver screen with Daniel Craig. The idea of The Other Zoey actor’s clever Pokémon reference isn’t lost on me, and I sincerely hope his Queer co-star receives more than just a couple of OBX appearances, if you catch my drift.
It seems the most straightforward approach for them to join the ranks like Cline did, is for the actors from the Outer Banks series to secure roles in productions similar to Glass Onion. Rian Johnson has a talent for assembling ensembles featuring both established stars and rising talents, and it’s quite plausible that any of the Outer Banks cast members (including Starkey) could find themselves starring in a future Knives Out-style mystery.
It’s uncertain how many more movies in this vein Johnson and Craig will produce. Nevertheless, given that their upcoming whodunnit, “Wake Up Dead Man”, is scheduled for 2025 and they continue to be passionate about these narratives, I think it’s plausible they’ll create several more. Consequently, there’s room for the rest of the cast from “Outer Banks” to participate.
Instead, perhaps he could embark on a journey similar to Starkey’s, joining a less mainstream but exhilarating project like “Queer.” This film by Luca Guadagnino narrates the passionate relationship between two men, along with their daring adventures post their initial encounter. Notably, it mirrors the director’s other works in terms of its steamy, sensual, and dramatic elements, thereby showcasing Drew Starkey’s skills effectively.
As an avid gamer and enthusiast of shows like “Outer Banks” and all the Daniel Craig films, I’m really rooting for him to keep collaborating with talented actors such as Drew Starkey and Madelyn Cline in his future projects.
To view all the projects discussed here today, including Craig starting his collaboration series with the OBX cast (fingers crossed), you can watch Outer Banks and Glass Onion on Netflix, and catch Queer in cinemas currently.
