Community leaders were surprised by the high turnout of attendees who persevered and came to Token2049 in the UAE, despite the difficulties encountered by members of the cryptocurrency community while traveling there by plane.
Despite the requirement for cryptocurrency enthusiasts to travel to the United Arab Emirates for Token2049, the large turnout of attendees took the community leaders by surprise.
Some leaders in the space intended to talk with Cointelegraph but ended up getting stranded at various airports, ultimately compelling them to come back instead.
Due to the storm, the plane where Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino was traveling couldn’t land, making him wait an extra two hours up in the air. “Fortunately,” he said, “I had just two more hours to spend in the sky.”
Despite this, Ardoino expressed appreciation for the generous-hearted individuals in the crypto community based on the large turnout of attendees. He exclaimed, “It’s heartening to see that this field is populated by people who are consistently open to meeting, debating, and driving progress. I’m thankful for being surrounded by so many dedicated individuals.”
Emin Gün Sirer, the founder of Ava Labs, shared their team’s challenges in reaching the event. They expressed, “It was quite a feat for us to make it here. We arrived amidst the biggest storm on record, which prolonged our landing time to five hours instead of the usual 20 minutes.”
Although this happened, Sirer believes that attending was valuable and the best choice. He expressed, “Despite getting soaked with water, my belongings included, it was all worth it due to the incredible energy in the room I’m witnessing now.”
Most attendees at the event faced personal challenges. Surprisingly, every ticket was snapped up by midday on the first day, causing the Token2049 organizers to cease registering new attendees.
At the event, crypto enthusiasts engaged in a number of activities. They networked with each other, explored project displays, and listened to insightful presentations from various speakers. Despite the difficulties posed by a historic storm, the crypto community showed great determination in attending the gathering.
