Dune 3 Filming Starts This June: Fans Can’t Believe the Exciting News!

The sequels of “Dune: Part Two” and the upcoming “Dune 3” will be separated by a time gap of twelve years in the storyline, but fortunately, fans won’t have to wait nearly that long for the next installment of Denis Villeneuve’s innovative sci-fi series. Recently, there has been significant progress in the production of the third film in the trilogy. “Dune: Part Two” was released less than a year ago and is currently competing (and sometimes being overlooked) on the awards circuit. To some fans, it feels like an eternity since the last installment. At one point, Villeneuve had fans concerned when he hinted at possibly filming another movie between “Part Two” and “Dune Messiah,” but that speculation was debunked last year. Now, not only is Villeneuve working on the script for “Dune Messiah,” but it seems the film may enter production much sooner than anticipated.

Based on the latest report from Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye, who is well-connected in the industry, it seems that the filming for Dune 3, also known as Dune Messiah, will commence in June! At a pre-BAFTA event that Bamigboye attended, he picked up information about the production timeline for Dune Messiah. In addition to mentioning Adrien Brody casually, Bamigboye shared this news.

On my route to meet Charles Finch, our host, who’s seated alongside Adrien Brody from The Brutalist, a voice murmurs in my ear that Denis Villeneuve will actually begin filming Dune 3: Messiah this June, not in 2026. This is surprising information for me to hear twice.

This report goes against what Villeneuve himself had stated about the production schedule of Dune Messiah. Previously, the renowned director had suggested that filming for the third movie might start in 2026. “I had planned to work on something else initially,” he added, “but truthfully, it was during my summer break that this idea sparked within me as I revisited and completed the story.

‘Dune’ Isn’t a Trilogy, According to Denis Villeneuve

As a passionate movie reviewer, I find myself eagerly anticipating the unfolding saga of “Dune,” a cinematic masterpiece directed by Denis Villeneuve. Although the production timeline for this epic story has been subject to change, one thing remains constant: “Dune Messiah” is indeed part of the Dune universe, serving as the third installment in this expansive narrative.

While Villeneuve himself may be hesitant to label his Dune movies a trilogy, it’s clear that we are witnessing a duology with “Dune” and its forthcoming sequel, “Dune: Part Two.” However, the story of “Dune Messiah” stands on its own merits, following the same characters but offering a unique and captivating tale.

A significant factor behind this development is the previously mentioned 12-year time leap. Following the climax of “Part Two”, where Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) declared war on the Emperor’s allies after defeating the Harkonnen army on Arrakis, fans anticipated that “Messiah” would portray the cosmic conflicts between House Atreides and the Fremen, as well as the forces of the Emperor. However, Villeneuve is steering the narrative towards a new path. Here’s what Villeneuve stated last October:

12 years have passed since we last saw the characters at the end of Part Two, and their experiences and narrative are distinctly fresh in this continuation. Although the setting remains the same, it’s a brand-new tale unfolding under unique conditions.
