‘Dune: Prophecy’ Renewed for Season 2 at HBO

As a dedicated fan of the Dune universe, I am absolutely elated by the news that HBO will be continuing with “Dune: Prophecy” for a second season! Having grown up devouring the original novels and then being blown away by Denis Villeneuve’s feature films, this series has been a dream come true. The cast, led by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, has brought these iconic characters to life in a way that resonates deeply with me.

HBO will continue following the Sisterhood of Dune: Prophecy.

The show is set to come back for another round, as confirmed by showrunner Alison Schapker at a press event on Thursday. This announcement was made just before the final episode of the first season, scheduled to air on December 22 on both HBO and Max.

Worldwide, it’s been reported by HBO that the first episode of “Dune: Prophecy” has attracted an impressive 15 million viewers on Max ever since its release on November 17th.

Schapker expressed great joy and appreciation towards the support from Legendary, our partners, as well as the exceptional talent both on-screen and off-screen. He’s excited that we can continue working with these remarkable individuals and continue narrating this captivating tale,” (paraphrased).

Sarah Aubrey, Max original programming’s leader, stated, “The worldwide appeal of Dune: Prophecy is due to Alison Schapker’s visionary direction as showrunner and executive producer. We are indebted to our partners at Legendary and our exceptional cast and crew for their commitment to the Imperium. We eagerly anticipate working with this team once more, to discover what remarkable stories they will tell next.

Titled “Dune: Prophecy“, this series takes place 10,000 years prior to the events depicted in director Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptations of “Dune” and focuses on a pair of Harkonnen sisters, portrayed by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. Their mission is to confront forces that imperil humanity’s destiny and lay the groundwork for the revered order that will eventually be known as the Bene Gesserit. The series draws inspiration from “Sisterhood of Dune”, a novel co-authored by Brian Herbert, son of “Dune” author Frank Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson.

In addition to Clive Standen, the first season’s ensemble also features actors like Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha.

Jason Clodfelter, president of television at Legendary (the production company behind the two Dune films), shared that the upcoming season will help us expand the groundbreaking, epic Dune franchise, which has mesmerized viewers globally throughout its releases. He’s excited about our ongoing collaboration with HBO and is pleased for Alison Schapker and her team, as well as the cast and crew who have poured their passion into adapting Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s esteemed source material onto screen.

The television series “Dune: Prophecy” is jointly produced by HBO and Legendary Television. Diane Ademu-John, who collaborated in its development, serves as an executive producer alongside Schapker. Directing the series is Anna Foerster, with Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, Jon Spaihts, Brian Herbert, and Byron Merritt also involved in production. The Frank Herbert estate has a hand in the project through Brian and Kim Herbert, while Anderson acts as a co-producer.
