From Sunny Mondal of Jamtara to Deepak Kumar in Laapataa Ladies, Sparsh Shrivastava has taken on notable roles based on men in rural communities. In a conversation with SCREEN, the actor explains his fascination with portraying these kinds of characters.
Openly expressing his thoughts, he shared with the media outlet that he frequently encounters filmmakers associated with the productions he’s offered. Despite being appealing, the narratives he’s chosen to portray are exceptionally unique and engaging. Notably, a large portion of the world identifies with rural India, which is an essential aspect of modern-day India, making up about 70% of the country.
Based on what was mentioned earlier, the kinds of project scripts from past works particularly resonated with him. Additionally, he intentionally avoided roles related to rural India as they have a high level of acceptance. Explaining his rationale, the actor of Collar Bomb stated this was due to the tendency in the industry to stereotype him in that manner. However, he acknowledges the exceptional scripts that come his way.
Sparsh Shrivastava added that while some might view these stories as just village tales, he finds it hard to resist due to the diverse and captivating characters he gets to portray. He also emphasized that when you place these characters together, you quickly notice how unique each one is. Therefore, he chooses to take on such roles because of the allure of the stories, the characters, and the creators behind them.
In terms of his career, you’ll find Sparsh appearing in the forthcoming comedy series titled Dupahiya, which also stars Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, and others. This show will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting March 7, 2025.
