Dwayne Johnson Admits He’s Late to Set, Pees in Bottles — But Explains There’s More To It

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through the labyrinth of Hollywood rumors and scandals, I’ve learned to take these stories with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The man is a machine; he’s juggling movies like most of us juggle video game controllers.

So, the whole being late to set and peeing in bottles thing?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson admits that there’s some truth to a report about his conduct on the Red One set, yet he and his team dispute specific details and claim it was far less severe than it appears in the accounts.

In a recent feature for GQ, Johnson addressed his habitual tardiness (previously reported in The Wrap that he was consistently late by around 7-8 hours daily, and occasionally missed entire days of filming, leading to an estimated additional $50 million expense on the $250 million project).

Well, I’ve encountered similar situations before, but never to such an extreme degree. That was off the charts! Absolutely wild. It’s just unbelievable. To put it mildly, it’s a bunch of nonsense.

Director Jake Kasdan praised Johnson, stating that he “never missed a day of work and always delivered his best, despite having a busy schedule. He might arrive late occasionally, but that’s typical in Hollywood – it happens with everyone. Over three major films I’ve worked with him, I’ve never seen anything but kindness from him towards every crew member on set.

Added his co-star Chris Evans: Yes, Johnson can be late due to his morning workouts.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “Now, let me clarify something. This isn’t about him being late or unexpectedly so, more like a slight delay on some mornings. It’s not a surprise to the team, and it’s accounted for in our schedules. So, he arrives when he’s supposed to, according to plan. Compared to some actors I’ve worked with who are inconsiderate of others’ time and effort, and unpredictable, Dwayne is different. We always know what he’s going to do and when.

In essence: Essentially, The Rock is running late, but that’s alright because everyone is aware he tends to be tardy. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that being late on a movie set can cause numerous other individuals to wait idly, which isn’t particularly considerate, despite common expectations. This remains the case even when other actors are equally or more tardy, and even if you take the time to greet the script supervisor.

However, despite the allegations, it’s worth noting that Johnson generally behaves in a courteous, generous, and professional manner towards the team.

Regarding urinating into bottles during filming to save time, Johnson simply acknowledged, “Yes, that occurs.” Sadly, the actor didn’t provide further details on the subject.

As for me, this fall’s seeing quite the whirlwind of activity! I’ve got not one, but two movies hitting the screens: Red One and Moana 2. Right now, I’m deep into shooting a live-action adaptation of Moana. I’ve just wrapped up filming for a new drama titled The Smashing Machine, and Disney has announced my next project – a movie called Monster Jam. Keep an eye out for these exciting ventures!
