Johnson, on Instagram, mourns the loss of his cherished French bulldog Hobbs, who was a co-star in the Fast & Furious spinoff. Accompanying heartfelt images and videos of his beloved pooch, he wrote a touching tribute, expressing deep feelings about the canine:
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been left speechless by the passing of Hobbs. Despite feeling frozen by this loss, I can’t help but be filled with gratitude for the boundless love he showered on our entire family. He didn’t linger in pain; instead, he slipped away bravely and peacefully under the cover of night. Lately, there are things that weigh heavy on my heart – feelings of solitude and sorrow. A melody from one of my favorite films seems fitting here, as I yearn for news from his new realm. Though I’m unsure how spirits interact, I pray for brief reunions so we can cause mischief and share laughter once more.
Indeed, the post was inundated with heartfelt condolences from Johnson’s fans, many of whom were fellow celebrities. Jason Momoa, Johnson’s co-star from the Fast series, expressed his sympathy with a row of hearts. Singer and actress Debbie Gibson also shared her sympathies, saying “So sorry for your loss.” Producer Adrian Dev added, “All dogs go to heaven.” Losing a pet after many years inevitably leaves a large void in the lives of Johnson’s family, especially as it has been ten years since their previous French bulldog, Brutus, passed away from eating poisonous mushrooms. This time, however, Hobbs’ passing seems to have been more natural and peaceful, which can offer some comfort during such difficult moments.
Dwayne Johnson Made Hobbs a Star
In 2019, Johnson humorously commented on nepotism when he included his dog Hobbs in the Fast & Furious spinoff film with Jason Statham. Sharing a set video of Hobbs, Johnson joked, “As producer, I decided to favoritism is for suckers. This furry star, Hobbs, lives life to the fullest and I’m quite proud of his acting in our movie. The most notable star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen and one tough cookie.
In preparation for his significant comeback to the Fast & Furious series, as seen in the 2023 film Fast X’s post-credits scene, Johnson is being considered for two upcoming installments of the saga. It appears that he will likely be featured in Fast & Furious 11, and a spinoff movie titled Hobbs and Reyes, co-starring Jason Momoa, is also under consideration.
Reflecting on the upcoming return to the Fast franchise, it’s safe to say that the experience will hold a mix of joy and nostalgia, as Johnson recalls the delightful times he spent working alongside his Hobbs character in Hobbs and Shaw. Yet, playing Luke Hobbs once more provides an ideal opportunity for Johnson to pay tribute to a cherished family member, and undoubtedly, to the Fast & Furious family too.
