As a cinephile who’s been around the block a few times and has seen my fair share of holiday movies, I must say that “Red One” seems to be a rollercoaster ride of opinions. On one hand, it’s got an intriguing premise with a star-studded cast that promises action, adventure, and Christmas magic. On the other hand, early reviews have been less than jolly, with some critics calling it the worst Christmas movie ever made.

The upcoming Christmas action comedy titled “Red One,” starring Dwayne Johnson, is currently receiving some negative feedback based on early social media comments. Joining Johnson in this holiday-themed action flick are J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, and Chris Evans. In anticipation of its premiere over the weekend, Johnson has been actively promoting the film. The plot revolves around an E.L.F (Extremely Large and Formidable) operative who embarks on a mission to rescue Santa Claus after he is abducted by an enigmatic antagonist. To accomplish this task, the E.L.F collaborates with the world’s most skilled tracker to locate Santa and save Christmas. At first glance, it appears to be typical, family-friendly holiday entertainment, but with such a star-studded cast, one would expect it to be a success.

The film, titled “Red One,” has received some favorable feedback, with Kristen Maldonado from Pop Culture Planet describing it as an action-filled holiday spectacle that infuses traditional magic with a unique twist by incorporating lesser-seen mythological characters. However, not all viewers found the movie to be as innovative, as indicated by its 34% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A critic for Toisto went as far as labeling it the “worst Christmas movie ever made,” expressing strong disapproval in their review.

This movie is devoid of authentic feelings in such a way that I struggle to envision any ardent Christmas enthusiasts deriving pleasure from it. It’s almost as if scaring children with chunks of coal is preferable to forcing them to watch this disorganized spectacle.

Feedback on the former Twitter platform has ranged from mediocre to highly critical. Some users are tearing its holiday edition apart, with one critic describing it as one of the poorest movies they have ever watched.

As a movie aficionado, I recently watched a film that Julian Roman from MovieWeb reviewed. He admired the creative world-building in the movie but found it weighed down by an overabundance of characters, subplots, and excessive CGI. As a movie buff, I must admit that Red One’s recent films haven’t exactly set the world alight, with Black Adam receiving some pretty harsh criticism. However, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon for this actor – he’s reprising his role as Maui in Disney’s Moana 2, hitting cinemas November 27. This magical ocean adventure is bound to sweep away any online negativity. Johnson is also gearing up to embody mixed-martial arts and UFC champion, Mark Kerr, in the upcoming biopic The Smashing Machine. With Emily Blunt joining the cast and the film being produced by A24 and directed by Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems, The Curse), this flick is certain to draw in WWE and UFC fans as well as a more art-house crowd.

Fans of the movie Jumanji got some fantastic news last week – Sony Pictures has finally set a release date for Jumanji 4, nearly five years after the release of Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019. According to reports, Dwayne Johnson and his original co-stars Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black will return to their roles once again. Director Jake Kasdan is also expected to come back to the franchise. The fourth installment of Jumanji is scheduled to hit theaters on December 11, 2026. Even though it’s still far away, better late than never! And let’s not forget about Fast X: Part 2 either.

It’s safe to assume that the release of Red One won’t significantly influence audience attendance for The Rock’s movies. Given The Rock’s impressive track record of blockbuster films and franchises, it’s unlikely that a sequel for Red One will be among them. We’ll have a clearer picture when the film premieres on November 15.
