- EA is set to shutter seven more of its mobile titles by January next year
- Contract Killer: Sniper, Deer Hunter Classic and more are all set to shutter
- They join the biggest name thus far with The Simpsons: Tapped Out
As a seasoned gamer with a memory that spans decades and countless controllers, it’s always a bittersweet moment when we see old favorites being retired from the gaming landscape. The recent news about EA shutting down seven of its mobile titles, including the action-packed Frontline Commando 2 and the thrilling Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores, is no exception.
Indeed, if you found it surprising that Electronic Arts (EA) was closing down the popular city builder game The Simpsons: Tapped Out while keeping other less famous titles in their collection, you were correct in your suspicion. According to GameRant, seven older games have now been included in EA’s list of potential closures, making the situation even more congested.
Seven game titles – Blood & Glory: Immortals, Contract Killer: Sniper, Deer Hunter Classic, Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores, Eternity Warriors 4, and both Frontline Commando 2 and Frontline Commando: D-Day – are set to close down on January 24th, coinciding with the same date The Simpsons will reportedly end.
Although none of these games reached the popularity peak of Tapped Out, which has been successful for quite some time, their cancellation suggests that Electronic Arts (EA) may not be valuing its catalog as highly as before.
Tapped off
It seems regrettable that mobile games often get discontinued due to the current state of game preservation being quite grim and EA’s reputation. Frankly, it’s astonishing this hasn’t occurred earlier. This isn’t meant to provide any solace to fans or those with sentimental feelings for these games.
