EA FC 25 devs on surprising World of Warcraft career mode influence

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that EA FC 25 is shaping up to be a game that truly understands and caters to its player base. The addition of customizable starting points, women’s career mode, and youth tournaments are just the tip of the iceberg.

In a delightful manner, EA FC 25 appears to be addressing a multitude of community suggestions accumulated over time. Including customizable settings for a live-service approach and a women’s career mode, it seems they’ve also considered the addition of youth tournaments to the mix.

One aspect from my recent trip to EA Romania that I’m particularly fond of is the new feature that allows you to determine your initial skill points in a game. Previously, you would typically begin with few skills and gradually build up, which could be quite a slow progression. However, the team at EA has addressed this issue by introducing a system reminiscent of World of Warcraft, enabling us to start with more skills right away.

EA FC 25 takes inspiration from MMORPGs like World of Warcraft

During an extensive conversation, Alex Constantnescu, the Lead Game Designer, shared insights on how gamers choose their backstory to influence the number of initial skill points they receive in the game.

He clarifies, “Previously, you’d start with seven skill points as a sort of tutorial, helping you understand the process of spending skill points and navigating the skill system.”

As a dedicated soccer enthusiast, I’m thrilled to discover that I can kick off my career as an already-established player! This exciting opportunity grants me 150 skill points right away. With these points, I can instantly max out the skill tree, bypassing any further progression if I so choose. What a fantastic way to dive straight into the heart of the game!

“We drew inspiration from modern MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft, where players can start with a fully developed character instead of having to gradually build one over time. This change is due to the fact that long-term players often grow weary of the grinding process.”

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve drawn inspiration from virtually every game under the sun, not just sports titles. We believe in offering players the freedom to decide their own playstyle. Whether you prefer to immerse yourself in the narrative and progression, or simply kick back and enjoy the game on your terms, it’s all up to you!

Andreas Wilsdorf, Line Producer shares, “There’s no need to start at the lowest rung any longer. Now, you can actually choose your character traits during the production process.”

The game presents three distinct ‘Background Tales’ that cater to various storylines. One is for a character coming back after a major injury, another for someone who is the offspring of a renowned player, and there’s an underdog-to-success narrative as well. However, developers have included an option called ‘Fresh Start’ where you can skip these tales entirely.

Wilsdorf adds, “You have the option to push hard and grind it out if you prefer, or alternatively, you could get an early advantage by taking things at a slightly faster pace.”
