‘Eddie Said I Got To Pay For It’: Martin Lawrence Explains Why Eddie Murphy Insists The Bad Boys Actor Pour Money Into Their Kids’ Wedding

As someone who has grown up watching these comedy legends, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgic joy when hearing about their children getting married! Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have been making us laugh for decades, and it’s heartwarming to see their kids following in their footsteps, albeit in a different way.

Ever since the ’80s, Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence have been two of the funniest entertainers in the game, making us laugh out loud in movies like “Boomerang” (1992) and “Life” (1999). Now, it looks like they’re about to become family, as their kids, Jasmin (Lawrence’s daughter) and Eric (Murphy’s son), are getting hitched! And get this – Lawrence has spilled the beans on who’ll be walking down the aisle.

Last week, it was announced that Jasmin Lawrence and Eric Murphy have become engaged, having been together for three years. When queried about who would be covering the wedding expenses, Martin Lawrence responded with:

In essence, Eddie told me that since he covered the costs of the last six weddings in his family, it’s my turn to pay for the latest wedding. He considers this fair, and although I don’t object, I find it more as a privilege rather than an obligation, given that the couple tying the knot are two lovely individuals.

On the “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” show, it was disclosed that Lawrence would be the one footing the bill for his daughter’s upcoming wedding. Here’s a link to the interview segment where he discusses this topic: [Interview Link]

Now, if you didn’t know, Eddie Murphy has ten children of his own, half of whom are daughters. We know that his daughter Bria got married in 2022, and his son Myles tied the knot as well last September. Lawrence, on the other hand, has three daughters. As Lawrence said, since Murphy has already paid for multiple weddings for his children, he suggested Lawrence take this one, and the Bad Boys actor doesn’t look mad about it. And hey, Bad Boys: Ride Or Die was one of the highest-grossing 2024 movies, so we imagine he can afford it.

This past summer, when the new “Bad Boys” movie starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith hit theaters, it kicked off with a fantastic domestic opening weekend earning $56 million, eventually raking in a total of $404 million worldwide, pushing the franchise over the billion-dollar mark. While I can’t say for sure how much Lawrence pocketed from this blockbuster success, I can guess he’s doing just fine. Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” on Netflix was met with positive reviews from critics, but I doubt it was quite as profitable.

Interestingly enough, when the first ‘Bad Boys’ movie was being produced, Martin Lawrence had hoped Eddie Murphy would join him on screen, but it seems that Murphy’s fee was too high, leading to Will Smith becoming his crime-fighting partner instead. In an unexpected turn of events, everything worked out splendidly, and now Murphy and Lawrence find themselves connected in a more profound way – as family members. Warm congratulations go out to the newly united family, including Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy, as their children have found love for each other!
