EigenLayer, a service that strengthens Ethereum‘s security using “restaking,” has been formally introduced on the Ethereum mainnet. This introduction came with the unveiling of EigenDA, a data-access platform created by Eigen Labs. Prior to its mainnet debut, EigenLayer had amassed over $12 billion in user deposits, showcasing its significance and potential within the cryptocurrency industry.
Announcing: EigenLayer EigenDA Mainnet Launch
— EigenLayer (@eigenlayer) April 9, 2024
At the mainnet launch, users have the opportunity to deposit more Ethereum (ETH) into a larger communal fund, enhancing the protection of additional networks, known as auxiliary chains or AVSs. This approach not only strengthens the security for these auxiliary chains but also extends the security advantages of Ethereum to other blockchain platforms.
EigenDA is the initial offering under EigenLayer’s protective shield, designed to help other blockchains efficiently manage and save transaction data. This solution aims to be on par with established data-availability platforms such as Celestia, contributing significantly to the growing blockchain infrastructure market.
Although we’ve made significant strides, the upcoming launch does not currently support direct payments from Access Verification Systems (AVSs) to network operators or a penalty mechanism for unethical behavior by operators. These elements are planned to be added to the system later in the year as it becomes more stable.
Eigen Labs, with $100 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, keeps advancing its groundbreaking platform. The prospect of a possible token giveaway suggested through an exclusive reward system is drawing large deposits, boosting the excitement and pressure on EigenLayer to revolutionize blockchain security.
