As a seasoned gamer who’s seen more TV shows than I’ve racked up high scores in my favorite games, this news about CBS‘s new drama pilot, Einstein, has me intrigued and slightly skeptical. The idea of a procedural centered around Albert Einstein’s great-grandson solving puzzling cases with the help of a detective? Sounds like an interesting premise, but I’ve been burned before by promising concepts that didn’t quite deliver.
CBS is ramping up its development, handing out its first drama pilot order of the current cycle.
The story revolves around a TV show titled “Einstein,” focusing on a fictional great-grandson of Albert Einstein. This series is adapted from a German original with the same name. The script was penned by Andy Breckman, creator of “Monk,” who will also oversee the production as showrunner. Randy Zisk, another alumnus of “Monk,” has been enlisted to direct and will additionally serve as an executive producer.
As a longtime fan of sitcoms and someone who has spent countless hours in waiting rooms at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), I am thrilled to learn that CBS is developing a single-camera comedy series called DMV. With my own experiences as inspiration, I can only imagine the hilarious situations and relatable characters that creator Dana Klein will bring to life.
CBS has already secured one series order for the 2025-2026 television season, titled “Sheriff Country,” which is a spin-off from the show “Fire Country.”
The character of Einstein in this series will be accompanied by the great-grandson of Albert Einstein, a college professor known for his brilliance but lack of direction. As events unfold, this professor finds himself in legal trouble and is subsequently recruited to aid a detective in resolving her trickiest investigations.
The television program is modeled after a successful German series that aired for three seasons on their Sat.1 network. Previously, CBS attempted to create an American adaptation of this show, including a project featuring Breckman and Zisk in 2019. A year afterward, writer Lauren Gussis and executive producer Corinne Brinkerhoff developed a version where the main characters’ genders were reversed (NBC also had a similar concept in development during 2018; unfortunately, none of these adaptations came to fruition).
Breckman and Zisk will serve as executive producers for the series titled “Einstein,” along with Tariq Jalil and Rose Hughes, as well as Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz from Seven One Studios International.
