Elena Looks Promising in Street Fighter 6

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but get pumped up about the recent leak of the new character for Street Fighter 6 Season 2! The excitement of imagining how this fresh addition will perform in the game is simply electrifying.

In the gaming world, Elena, a well-known figure from Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV, holds a special place among gamers. Therefore, when she was absent from Street Fighter V, fans felt somewhat let down because they had anticipated seeing her in the game’s roster, perhaps even as a late inclusion.

As we’re currently at a point where only the teaser trailer for Elena, which was released by Capcom in June, is available, the footage provides a glimpse into Elena’s home country, showing her dancing to drum beats and demonstrating dance moves that bear a striking resemblance to some of her special moves.

The brief video didn’t feature any gameplay demonstrations, yet a sneak peek at her movements sparked some concepts among fighting game content developers about the character Elena they might expect.

For instance, BigNastyKail commented on her abilities and proposed that she could possess a regenerative Super Art, similar to her distinctive one in Street Fighter III. MaximillianDood notes that she recovers during Drive Rush, which might be troublesome to counteract. On the other hand, Sajam offers a more speculative idea – either her moves steal life or she has healing passive abilities. Conversely, ChrisG simply stated, “She plays well.

It seems likely that she’ll still possess her healing ability, the question is only about the type it might take – whether it’s a Special Skill, a powerful Super Technique, or perhaps a passive one such as a taunt.

It’s reasonable to note that her actions bear a striking similarity to those seen in Street Fighter III, with minor tweaks reminiscent of the Shotos characters like Ryu, Ken, and Akuma. I’m also guessing that her gameplay style might lean towards Juri’s close-range approach or pose a mid-range threat because of her hitbox size.

So it seems that attacking conventionally would work better against Elena compared to Juri, as I’m more accustomed to playing as Juri.

A question I’d like to explore is whether she will engage with other combatants, particularly Lily, who seems to bear many similarities. Are there shared events between them, or will their encounters mark a first-time interaction? As for Makoto and Ibuki, are they likely to be introduced in a future update?

In addition to her dance skills, the street-style aesthetic of Street Fighter 6 perfectly suits Elena and makes her a natural fit within its roster, even though her hairstyle may have raised some eyebrows, including my own.

As a gamer, I found the trailer intriguing with its selection of costumes. While it’s Street Fighter IV attire that’s on display, I can see the logic behind incorporating her classic outfit too, perhaps as extra content via DLC or microtransactions. However, my heart yearns for the nostalgic vibe of her SF III costume.

Elena is looking particularly promising following the excitement generated by her debut alongside Mai Shiranui and Terry Bogard, and her design fits well with the gritty, urban vibe of Street Fighter 6.

From my perspective as an avid gamer, it’s clear that in competitive play and ranked matches, she’ll be chosen due to the Day One mismatches. Without her on their roster from the start, other players might struggle to anticipate her movements effectively. This is a common challenge when a new character is introduced, don’t you think?

Elena will be released on June 5, 2025.
