As a lifelong fan of both The Lord of the Rings and Batman, I must say, the news that Elijah Wood will voice Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, in Batman: Arkham Shadow has sent shivers down my spine, not unlike the ones induced by his terrifying character! This is an exciting development for me, as I’ve always imagined Frodo Baggins donning a darker cloak and venturing into the shadows of Gotham City.
Actor Elijah Wood, famous for his role in The Lord of the Rings, has announced that he will take on one of Batman’s adversaries in the VR game, Batman: Arkham Shadow, exclusive to Meta Quest. Though Frodo Baggins might have preferred to keep things under wraps, developers Camouflaj are thrilled to disclose this information through a Q&A video. In this game, Elijah Wood will portray Dr. Jonathan Crane, more commonly known as the terrifying Scarecrow. The Rat King is set to be Batman’s main antagonist in Arkham Shadow, with the Scarecrow appearing as a secondary villain compared to his role in Arkham Knight.
In a video uploaded by Batman Arkham Videos on YouTube, entitled “Camouflaj’s Q&A developer video,” Elijah and other members of the cast for Batman: Arkham Shadow unveiled their characters in the forthcoming virtual reality game. Elijah expressed his excitement about this new chapter in the Arkham series being entirely VR-based, referring to it as a tantalizing prospect, and he found playing such an iconic character to be an enticing proposition. A brief motion capture segment featuring Elijah hinted at a scene where Scarecrow or Dr. Crane appears to converse with Batman about his impending defeat, suggesting that the game may involve Batman potentially falling victim to the Scarecrow’s sinister schemes.
In the upcoming game, some familiar voices from Arkham Knight return to their roles. Troy Baker takes on Harvey Dent, while Tara Strong continues as Harley Quinn. Roger Craig Smith once again lends his voice to Batman, a role he previously played in Batman: Arkham Origins. Commissioner James Gordon will be portrayed by Mark Rolston, and Khary Payton steps into the shoes of Otis Flannegan, also known as The Ratcatcher.

In Arkham Shadow, the story unfolds following the events of Arkham Origins, with an emphasis on younger incarnations of Batman’s notorious adversaries. The Dark Knight in this installment will exhibit a more ruthless demeanor, and it will include interrogation sequences reminiscent of the earlier Arkham games. In these scenes, players may seize enemies by their collars and mercilessly extract information from them.
Mark your calendars! “Batman: Arkham Shadow” is set for launch on October 22. Keep yourself informed about the latest gaming updates and captivating tales by staying connected with Gfinity Esports.
