As a long-time admirer of Elijah Wood’s captivating performances and versatile acting range, I find myself thoroughly enthused about his upcoming projects – particularly “The Monkey” and “Bookworm.
Elijah Wood is bursting with anticipation for Osgood Perkins’ (known for “Longlegs”, “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House”) forthcoming supernatural horror-comedy titled “The Monkey”. This film, based on Stephen King‘s 1980 short story, has recently been discussed by Wood as he shared details about his part in the 2025 movie. He described it as “really bloody.
It’s indeed an entertaining blend of horror and comedy. By the way, I’ve been a big admirer of Osgood Perkins for quite some time now. As both a writer and director, he has created some exceptional films that never cease to amaze me. I’m genuinely pleased that his talent is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
In a refreshing turn of events, Perkins, the son of Anthony Perkins from Psycho fame, is currently basking in his moment as a horror mastermind. He’s skillfully riding the wave of success following the release of Longlegs, a chilling horror adventure that showcases one of Nicholas Cage’s most peculiar performances.
Wood shared that when Oz contacted him for involvement in the movie, he was thrilled to be a part of it. He mentioned that the script is fantastic and stands out as something unique for Oz, given his limited experience in the comedy genre.
This work is simply electrifying! I can hardly contain my excitement as I eagerly anticipate others getting a glimpse of it. Making it was an incredible experience, and I’ve got a downright hilarious, quirky character to play in this film that I’m absolutely thrilled about.
The chilling story, created by James Wan, follows the journey of twin brothers as they uncover their father’s dusty monkey figurine hidden in the attic. A string of grotesque deaths ensue, leading the brothers to consider discarding the toy and moving on. However, this is a Stephen King tale – blood shall be spilled once more, not just then but possibly years later.
Elijah Wood Has Stayed Busy with Bookworm
In the meantime, Wood has a packed schedule ahead. His new part in the upcoming adventure comedy “Bookworm” promises to excite fans. This film offers something for everyone, truly. Filmed in beautiful New Zealand and directed by Ant Timpson, who also worked with Wood on “Come to Daddy,” the story follows 11-year-old Mildred (played by Nell Fisher). Her life takes a turn when her long-lost father, Strawn, unexpectedly reappears.
Shrewd and clever, she refuses to let her father – a former, quirky magician – dampen her spirits. Instead, they set off on an exciting journey as Mildred seeks to uncover a legendary creature called the Canterbury Panther. Add in various real-world dangers, and you have the ingredients for a delightful comedy adventure. Wood is hilarious as Strawn, who needs to put aside his flashy show business demeanor.
