As a hardcore gamer with a soft spot for dark comedies and twisted narratives, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming series, Sweetpea! Ella Purnell‘s portrayal of Rhiannon Lewis in this revenge thriller seems to perfectly blend the lines between victim and vigilante, something that’s always intriguing in a protagonist.
Ella Purnell is employing aggressive tactics to ensure she stands out again in the latest production of ‘Sweetpea’ on Sky and Starz.
This six-episode British series, titled a revenge thriller, focuses on Rhiannon Lewis (Purnell), a seemingly inconspicuous individual often disregarded by others. However, as the story unfolds, Rhiannon reveals an insatiable appetite for vengeful killings. Fundamentally, the show explores a woman’s journey to assert her identity powerfully, using a distinct blend of darkness and humor, as suggested in its synopsis.
Purnell shares, ‘Occasionally I create a list of individuals who seem to ignore me.’ He also mentions, ‘There’s a list of people I wish I could help disappear,’ which includes ‘Donna at the mini market who is always in a bad mood,’ ‘Norman from work, who overlooked my abilities,’ and ‘Julia Blenkinsopp, the one who caused me so much distress.’
She adds, “I’m not a victim. Not anymore.”
In addition to Sweetpea, the ensemble features Nicôle Lecky playing Julia, Jon Pointing in the role of Craig, Calam Lynch as AJ, Leah Harvey portraying Marina, Jeremy Swift as Norman, and Dustin Demri-Burns as Jeff. These characters are adapted from C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name.
Kirstie Swain, along with Krissie Ducker, Laura Jayne Tunbridge, and Selina Lim, is both overseeing the production of the series and penning the script. Ella Jones, along with Manpreet Dosanjh (for Sky Studios), Patrick Walters (for fanboy), Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman (for See- Saw Films) are also involved in directing and executive producing the series. Additionally, Purnell serves as an executive producer, with Zorana Piggott taking on the role of the series producer.
The series titled Sweetpea makes its debut on Starz this coming Thursday, October 10th. After that initial showing, it shifts to airing every Friday for the rest of the season.
