Caution: Major plot reveals for The Last of Us season 2, episode 7! Actress Bella Ramsey discusses the most harrowing scene featuring Ellie in the final episode and its influence on Ellie’s character development. In the season 2 finale of The Last of Us, Ellie locates Abby at the Aquarium, but encounters Owen and Mel instead. When confronted by Owen, he attempts to shoot Ellie; however, Ellie kills him first. A bullet accidentally wounds Mel, who is pregnant, causing her to implore Ellie to remove her unborn child as she dies.
In a conversation marked by distinct flair, Ramsey shared insights into the portrayal of the climactic scene in The Last of Us season 2 finale, where Ellie kills Owen and Mel. The actor elaborated on how this pivotal moment encapsulates Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) darker aspects, highlighting his capacity for violence against anyone who stands in his path. They discussed how the scene serves to illustrate to Ellie the devastating consequences of revenge, and the immense suffering she has inflicted in her pursuit of avenging Joel. Here’s what Ramsey had to share:
In the last episode, there were numerous intense scenes I had to portray! Indeed, it was a heavy, somber scene, one that I was both eager and petrified to act out. The fear was immense, perhaps even surpassing the dread I felt upon witnessing Joel’s demise. That moment, I believe, represents Ellie acknowledging she has assumed all aspects of Joel she never desired to embody. She’s now confronting the repercussions of her actions, her sorrow, her vengeance, and being unable to pause for a second to reflect.
What Ellie Killing Owen & Mel Says About Her Quest For Revenge
She’s Seen What Her Pursuit Of Abby Has Truly Done
In the game “The Last of Us”, Ellie isn’t the first character to lose her life at Ellie’s hands during her pursuit for vengeance. She brutally kills Nora, played by Tati Gabrielle, in a hospital basement, hoping to locate Abby. However, Ellie’s act against Mel (the specific character name isn’t mentioned, but I presume it’s the one you intended) is particularly grim. This is because Mel was not supposed to be caught up in the conflict, and she was pregnant. The heart-wrenching plea for her unborn child’s safety as she dies leaves a profound impact on the main character, who ultimately decides to return home with Dina (Isabela Merced), Jesse (Young Mazino), and Tommy (Gabriel Luna) afterwards.
Although she realizes the wrongdoing in Abby’s actions, the repercussions eventually surface: In the finale of The Last of Us, Abby kills Jesse and captures Tommy. Ellie pleads for Tommy’s life, deeply affected by all that has transpired, seemingly abandoning her thirst for vengeance. However, it appears that Abby is aware of what happened to Owen and Mel, and her intentions seem to be focused on avenging her fallen friends at the theater. The consequences of these events will likely unfold further in The Last of Us season 3, providing a glimpse into Abby’s perspective.
Our Take On Ellie Killing Owen & Mel In The Last Of Us Season 2 Finale
What She’s Done Will Have Devastating Consequences
The act of Ellie taking the lives of Owen and Mel is certain to bring about significant long-term impacts in the world of “The Last of Us,” given that Abby apparently now knows both individuals have met their end. As the cycle of vengeance unfolds in season 3, we’ll witness it through the perspective of Abby’s role within the WLF as they confront the Seraphites. However, the primary character cannot undo what has transpired, so when the suspenseful ending of season 2 is revisited, it seems likely that even more harrowing outcomes will ensue.
