Elon Musk Mocked on Late Night Shows Over Accusations of Faking Cyberattack During Trump Interview

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the digital landscapes of various platforms, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu watching the latest shenanigans unfold on Elon Musk’s revamped Twitter, now dubbed X. It seems like we’ve stepped into a never-ending game of technical troubleshooting, with characters from an earlier era reappearing in unexpected ways.

On Tuesday evening, during their opening remarks, late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers criticized Donald Trump’s interview on Elon Musk’s updated Twitter platform, X, pointing out the technical issues leading up to the conversation and instances of seemingly slurred speech from the former president.

Trump and Musk had an extensive two-hour conversation about various topics on X’s premises. However, the discussion initially faced some technical issues, which Musk attributed to a Distributed Denial-of-Service attack.

As someone who has faced numerous cyber threats during my time at SpaceX and Tesla, I can confidently say that we are currently under a severe DDoS attack against X. I’m doing everything in my power to stop it right now. In the worst-case scenario, we might have to go forward with fewer live listeners and record the conversation for later release, as our primary focus must be on securing our systems.

Approximately 40 minutes later, the interview commenced, taking place on the identical stage where both individuals attained notoriety and accumulated massive followings – Trump, however, lost access to this platform in 2021, following his ban, which occurred two days after the Capitol insurrection. Interestingly, his account was later reinstated under Elon Musk’s ownership. Post-ban, Trump established an alternative platform called Truth Social but has since returned to X (previously Twitter), posting eight tweets since his comeback.

On “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, the host playfully remarked that the conversation was, “an exceptional evening for eccentric, elderly, wealthy men without companions.”

“Colbert stated that whenever Trump posts anything on Twitter now, it recalls the unfortunate cause for his initial ban. It’s similar to receiving a party invitation that reads, ‘Join us. When: Tuesday. Where: Mason Park. Why? Because I can now be within 200 yards of the school again.'”

Later, Colbert playfully criticized Musk over technical problems allegedly causing the delay, saying, “I won’t wait 40 minutes for anything except for the bacon cheese fries from Shake Shack at LaGuardia Airport.”

Colbert clarified that Musk admitted fault and attributed the delay to an alleged large-scale Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack on the site, overwhelming all our data connections. However, if this scenario seems implausible to you – you’re right. Twitter insiders later confirmed [as reported by The Verge] that no such DDoS attack occurred, and there was a 99% likelihood that Musk was being untruthful.

During “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” the host began the show’s opening monologue by poking fun at an interview, followed by playing a video excerpt featuring Donald Trump recounting a supposed discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

To start, Meyers stated that the incident in question did not occur. Secondly, there were rumors about Putin either planning to invade Ukraine or playfully putting ice cream down someone’s shirt. Furthermore, he commented on Putin’s voice, saying it sounds like a hyperactive child on Halloween who refuses to remove his plastic vampire teeth.

During their discussion, Meyers challenged an unclear response from Trump. At one point, Trump mentioned, “We could discuss tunnels, rockets, electric vehicles, and numerous other topics. Now, you’re interested in AI, and that will surely be another fascinating subject.”

Meyers joked of the confusing answer, “In fact, I think AI might have written that sentence.”

With the November election drawing near, Musk is making full use of the political power that comes with owning Twitter. According to an article in The New Yorker, this billionaire has been vocal about various topics using his significant influence as a company executive. He’s expressed his views on the candidates, addressed racial violence in the U.K., and even engaged in a public dispute with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
