As a seasoned Mortal Kombat veteran who can remember the pixelated glory days of Mortal Kombat II, I must say that the reveal of Noob Saibot in the upcoming expansion, Khaos Reigns, has brought a wave of nostalgia that’s as fierce as Scorpion’s spear.
The initial installment of Mortal Kombat, titled Mortal Kombat 1, is preparing for the launch of its Khaos Reigns extension, with NetheRealm Studios gradually unveiling the list of new characters to be introduced.
Originally included in Mortal Kombat 11’s main roster, Noob Saibot is now making his return as Downloadable Content (DLC). This time around, he features a fresh backstory and an assortment of new fighting techniques.
Noob Saibot Gameplay Reveal
In the newly unveiled gameplay video, the focus is on Noob Saibot; similar to past iterations, he remains an incarnation of Bi-Han, also known as Sub-Zero. (Paraphrased)
Similarly to past iterations of Noob, this version possesses the capability to conjure a duplicate for offensive purposes. Furthermore, it boasts a transport feature, enabling it to swiftly move across the battlefield, often proving frustrating for adversaries during combat.
Noob Saibot in the Original Games
Despite the rich narrative surrounding Noob Saibot within the Mortal Kombat universe, portraying him as a spectral counterpart of Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, players recognize him as one of the “Color Variant Ninjas” in the game due to his similarities in appearance.
Originating in “Mortal Kombat II”, Noob Saibot was a ninja character known for utilizing his shadow during combat. Interestingly, his name is a reversed version of the surnames of the co-creators of Mortal Kombat: Noob for Ed Boon and Saibot for John Tobias.
As a devoted fan, it’s been thrilling to witness Noob Saibot evolve into a beloved franchise icon, consistently making appearances in the latest installments. His prominence in MK11 was indeed well-deserved, but it seems fitting that they chose to save his narrative for an expansion rather than dilute the main storyline focused on the clash between two Sub-Zeros – Bi-Han and Kuai Liang. Intriguingly, only in this timeline does Kuai Liang assume the role of Scorpion instead of Sub-Zero.
Khaos Reigns Character Roster
In the upcoming expansion, the character Noob will be the third to receive attention, following Sektor and Cyrax. Originally portrayed as cyborgs, Sektor and Cyrax have been rewritten as human women donning ninja-like Iron Man armor. New additions to the roster will hail from outside the Mortal Kombat universe, such as the T-1000 from “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” Conan the Barbarian, a character from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie of the same name, and Ghostface, known from the “Scream” series.
Alongside the expansion, there will be exclusive character makeovers for previously established figures, while those who pre-order will receive a special collection of skins for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, and Noob.
Here’s the official description for the Khaos Reigns expansion:
As a gamer diving headfirst into Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, I’m excited to join Liu Kang in his New Era adventure! This game offers a fresh narrative and immersive cinematic journey. Alongside Liu Kang, I’ll rally my champions, even trusting those who were once enemies, as we face the relentless Titan Havik. If we falter, the New Era will crumble into chaos.
Chaos takes over in the launch of Mortal Kombat 1 on September 24th. Players can now enjoy this game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Nintendo Switch.
